Which was your favorite KONG score?-KING KONG-33-Great score of many moods by MAX STEINER- SON OF KONG-33- Nice score but not as elaborate as the original by MAX STEINER- KING KONG-76- JOHN BARRY'S great score of epic excitement and beauty as well. KING KONG LIVES-86- JOHN SCOTT'S very effective score with a grand main theme. KING KONG -05- JAMES NEWTON HOWARD'S Fine score with much musical diversity.
Steiner's is the classic, for sure. And utterly brilliant. I know team Stromberg wanted to make another, even more definitive recording — and I hope that will still happen.
But my favourite is the Barry. It's more subtle and sublime, IMO. It has gorgeous theme, it's got a wonderful 'mood' and mystery about it as well as some lucid, musical dramatic set pieces.
My personal favourite as an album experience is unquestionably James Newton Howard, but as others have said -- the classic reference point as score-in-film is Steiner's.
I don't enjoy films with apes and/or monkeys in them by and large. Or tea commercials, either.
None the less, I'm reasonably familiar with the scores written for several of them, and the one I like best for a Kong film - or indeed any film revolving around said animals - is John Barry's.
As much as I love the fantastic Barry score, especially now the Lukas has done it right, JNH's last-minute beauty edges ahead, and is also my favorite score of the '00's.
My favorite Kons Score is Akira Ifukube's "KING KONG Vs. GODZILLA" (1962) :-) Quiet guys, just kidding!! My favorite is Max Steiner' score followed closely by JNH' score
Steiner's score IS film music. It's (arguably) the score without which we'd all just be listening to rearranged Mendelssohn. It's also my fav of said simian scores. It's been much aped since.
Really people! The majority here is not on the side of Steiner. How could you? There is only one true score, the original and best! Hope you all have nightmares where some giant gorilla thrusts his hand through the window and carries you all to the top of the Empire State Building until you renounce your views!
