If you are a Zimmer fan he has posted a free download of a track from his new score RUSH, a Ron Howard film about formula one racing in the 80's. Pretty cool move giving fans a free taste. Sounds awesome and vintage Zimmer. Really looking forward to both film and score. You can get the track through Zimmers facebook page and I believe from the movie's website.

Seven months before the film's release? That's one long period between post-production and release (I'm surprised Universal hasn't moved this one to the summer yet, seeing how Kick-Ass 2 is very niche-appealed and R.I.P.D. sounds like another Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).

Seven months before the film's release?

I am an extra in this movie and it was being filmed in April last year.

I know Ron Howard tested the film back in October (tests were very strong, from what I recall) so you think with the film almost totally finished, good test screenings and a bankable lead in Chris Hemsworth, you think it would be on the Summer slate. Surprising that it's not (while Kick-Ass 2 is, which outside of Jim Carrey feels more like an early Fall release).

As for a 1980's sound from Zimmer, call me pleased as punch. I hope that it's a lot like Black Rain's score.

Cool! I like it when Hans eschews the orchestra. Michael Brook versus Inception.

It sounds a little too modern to me. I was hoping for something similar to Black Rain but it feels somewhat shapeless, as if it doesn't know what it wants to be.

I could also see the score clashing with the 1980's setting of the film.

This is awesome! Sounds modern and developed with excellent stereo channeling, and as with most Zimmer stuff I'm a huge fan of his instrumentation on here. He's one of the finest composers working beyond an 80-piece orchestra.

Now, when is he working with Michael Mann?

Hmm, it sounds like the musical ideas in Black Rain brought forth with a modern approach.

Too much RCP.....

There are no themes, just static
it's all Iron Man, Battleship, Inception and bit of Angels & Demons combined =(

Every single one of those you mentioned had multiple themes

It sounds less like BLACK RAIN to me and more like the early 90's Pete Haycock/rock action sound a la DROP ZONE. Meets Michael Brook, as First Breath said.

Yes that clip posted from youtube sounds awesome and kickass. To my ears, Drop Zone meets Days of Thunder with all according 20-or-so years of improvement and artistic growth. Can't wait for the score!

So what do you guys think of the samples over at Filmmusicreporter? Sounds like nineties-Zimmer to me. Might wait for the movie to judge how it all works.

My goodness, those samples are magical. I'll be sitting out the forum discussion on this one and instead be focused on enjoying this music which plays straight to my Zimmer-lovin' heart!
