I'm pumped about this score! Of course I am, I generally love Giacchino's music. Hopefully he introduces and develops some great new themes in this one. I'm also wondering if Varese will release a deluxe edition at the same time or wait another year to capitalize on sales. And when (it's probably when, not if) they do, I hope it's the size of a regular CD case.

Who else is looking forward to Giacchino's second Trek outing?

P.S. Thumbs up for Benedict Cumberbatch, the British actor with one of the coolest names!

This guy was also featured in The Hobbit (part 1) for about half a second!

His score for Star Trek (2009) was OK but it took a while to grow on me enough to buy the Deluxe Score set. Has any of the new score been leaked or previewed? Not too sure if I am crazy about releasing two versions of a score at the same time. The Hobbit (part 1) for example with two versions seemed like a immediate double dipping experience. I only bought the longer score and am fine with it but technically I am missing some music from the shorter version. If was a bigger Shore fan I would feel cheated. Longer or Deluxe editions should have all the music from the non-deluxe or shorter editions. Least that is how I feel.

I'm looking forward to it. The last Star Trek score was a lot of fun. The original album was too short and the deluxe was way too long so I made a nice 65-minute playlist and I'm happy.

(Still not a fan of that main theme, though.)

Maybe cool names are now in. Colin Kaepernick, for instance.

looking forward to it, and this is coming from a guy that's lukewarm on Giacchino. just hope he stays away from that bloated choir. didn't work for me on the first score. "Hella Bar Talk" will always be one of my all time favorites cues.

The only part of his score out there is from the 9-minute prologue that aired in select theaters (I think it was in front of The Hobbit). From what I read, that was the only part Giacchino had scored as of then, but I suspect he's pretty busy about now.

Yeah, it would be nice of a deluxe or expanded album contained ALL the music, but they always want us to $pend more on their products. I'm personally fine with just the Deluxe Edition, but I kept the original album because it actually fits well on the shelf with my other Trek CDs.

One would hope that the Lukas Kendall/La La Land connection would strike a deal with Paramount (instead of going with Varese) and give us a complete 2CD set off the bat. An unprecedented and Fan Worthy move that says you truly CAN have it all without having to double dip at a later time.

I really hope LaLaLand gets this for a release.

And I hope the Courage theme AND Giacchino's theme is used frequently thoughout...not just the end credits.

I'd also like to see LLL get this. With all they've done for past Star Trek music, they've proven both that they deserve this release far more than any other label, and that they'd actually do a proper job with it the first time around.

His music usually doesn't grab me though I did enjoy ST 09 so have hopes ST ID will be just as good. I would become a much bigger fan if he fleshed out his musical ideas and themes. He's always so close yet so far away.

I'm excited about the new Star Trek Into Darkness score. I really enjoyed Michael Giacchino's work on the Star Trek (2009) score as well as John Carter, Ghost Protocol and LOST. The only issue I had with his first Star Trek score was that the tracks were very short. For example the new theme for Star Trek 1:01 min or Hella Bar Talk 1:55 min. I suppose maybe that is a result of modern, fast past editing and not the fault of the composer. But at any rate, I'm hoping the new film allows for the main themes to be expanded into longer compositions. Also, I felt the first release definitely suffered the "Pirates of the Caribbean fate". Please no more 45 minute scores for 120 minute films (that's just a waste of CD-R space or digital download space LOL). :=)

If Paramount does not kill me, here I uploaded the first piece of music of Giacchino heard in the IMAX preview: track contains some voices and sound effects.

Yeah, that's pretty illegal, dude.

It will be interesting if that woman who says, "Oh shit, got it." around the 1 minute mark will be in the final mix.

Any chance Varese re-releases the expanded ST? (maybe in normal packaging?) Missed it the first time around... though it's not a must-have for me, I can wait.

I'm down with cool names, but Cumberbatch is also a first-rate actor. Probably the best thing to happen to the Star Trek universe, acting-wise, since Ricardo Montalban. I'm very excited to see Into Darkness when it comes out.

If Varese ends up getting this, I just hope the tracklist features more material then the 2009 film...and hope it sells as well as the last film to warrant an expanded quickly. Lets pray the choir is included this time. wink
