OH MY GOD this is awesome! How did this get so overlooked on the board? It's about time we had some good Goldsmith re-recordings (aside from Goldsmith's Rio Conchos/Artist Who Did Not Want to Paint on Intrada, I don't think much of them in general, especially those on Varese), and I've long lamented the lack of surviving tapes for this full superb score. If this sells (it's Goldsmith, it's gonna sell silly!) then I hope we get some other Goldsmith otherwise lost to the ages like QBVII complete or The Salamander or his first two feature scores (both westerns): Black Patch and Face of a Fugitive. I'm just assuming those don't survive... Yavar

I totally agree with you, Yavar. There is just no stopping James and Prometheus from producing absolutely top-notch re-recordings with the City of Prague PO. And this is just the FIRST in a series of Goldsmith rerecordings!! (... plus THE RED PONY concert suite as a bonus!)

I'll wait to hear this first before getting excited and passing comment. That artwork is dreadful though. I think the Tadlow-designed artwork on the bottom is pretty good, but it must be said that the releases on the Tadlow label itself do have much superior packaging and artwork than the ones produced for Prometheus. It's the music that REALLY matters, though, and I am over the MOON to see the news that this is just the first in a series of complete Goldsmith scores to be re-recorded! I mean seriously -- best news of the YEAR and this year, that's really saying something. Yavar P.S. Could the person who started this thread change the title to something more specific like "Hour of the Gun Complete Tadlow Recording"?

Not that I needed reminding, but those clips demonstrate why this is my favourite western score by Mr. Goldsmith ... that main theme (only heard very briefly in the film as I recall) is wonderful and this interpretation is near spot-on. And the clarity of the two pieces is excellent. Very tempted! Mitch I love the main theme too, and it is not overly used in the film, as you said, but there is at least one other scene, where it appears, alas I don't have a clip of it to post, but it is the scene where James Garner is riding into the tiny village in search of Robert Ryan. It is played very, very softly, but with some abruptness in the rhythm, and the theme stated by acoustic guitar. Really an awesome scene with the music and all. edit: actually my memory failed. The guitar is actually playing a two-bar accompaniment figure. I believe the theme itself is stated softly in (I think) the flutes. A marimba figures prominently in this scene as well.
