James Horner is currently scoring Carlo Carlei’s upcoming film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld in the title roles. The movie’s cast also includes Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, Natascha McElhone as Lady Capulet, Lesley Manville as the Nurse and Ed Westwick as Tybalt. Other actors include Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick & Kodi Smit-McPhee as the lovers’ cousins, Tybalt and Benvolio and Stellan Skarsgard as Prince of Verona.

Academy Award-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Downtown Abbey) has penned the screenplay based on William Shakespeare’s play and is also producing the Amber Entertainment production with Ileen Maisel (Ripley’s Game) and Lawrence Elman. David Tattersall (Star Wars: Episode II & III, The Green Mile) is the film’s cinematographer and Peter Honess (L.A. Confidential and the James Horner-scored Troy) is editing the picture. Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero (The Shining) serves as co-producer.

Romeo and Juliet is currently in post-production and a release in 2013 is expected.

If Horner is inspired by this film and has the time he needs, ROMEO AND JULIET could be a magnificent score. I want a three hanky weeper!

I was expecting Carlo Siliotto to get this one but Horner is an interesting choice.

The question is: where will he steal from this time? Nino Rota?

Hopefully he'll quote Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet like in Star Trek 3! wink

This sounds pretty good - I'd love a great new tearjerker from Mr. Horner!

I've been touched (and deeply so in some cases) by Horner's music many times in the past but any mention of Nino Rota and his eternal masterpiece is a sacrilege...

There has been a lot of loose adaptations of Romeo & Juliet in the last years (the latest one, Gnomeo & Juliet, with JNH). Don't think that Horner will quote anything of them.

Horner would do fine. But lawd have mercy I wish Delerue were still with us. He would've been perfect. Though the critics would probably rake him over the coals for being sentimental and old fashioned. They might do the same with Horner.

Vocalist Iestyn Davies ( http://twitter.com/iestyn_davies/ ) posted this blurb and below photo on his Twitter feed a few days ago:

"My view from the booth, Studio 1 Abbey Road. There's James 'Titanic' Horner waving. pic.twitter.com/PfKHxpqP".

Various other tweets:

"Have to say, James Horner's Romeo & Juliet score made me weep eternally in the sound booth. Took me back to Titanic 1997... #brainwashing"

"Lovely atmosphere @wigmore_hall last night. Enjoyed the evening hugely! Now off to Abbey Road (clang) to sing some James Horner. "

And today that:

"Final day of recording with James Horner for Romeo & Juliet. Today at Air Studios, with Sissel. Norwegians will be happy."

The film's lead actor, Douglas Booth, also posted on his Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/DouglasBooth ) on Wednesday that:

"James Horner begins to record the soundtrack for Romeo & Juliet today at Abbey Road. Exciting times."

If he uses the 'danger motif' when the Capulets face off with the Montagues, I'll puke.

Of course the first thing people would do is trash the score before they hear it.

That being said, I think this is a momentous day with Horner reuniting with Sissel. I can't wait!

Well said my friend. Can't wait to hear the new score or any new score by James!
