I'd be up for a reissue if it expanded upon the contents of the Bay Cities CD. This is one of my all-time favorite scores from any era or genre.
I agree. Hell even if it was just a pure re-issue with no new music. I would still buy a copy.

Back in, oh I say 1992 or so. Early December, I went through my mom's closet to find Christmas gifts. I came across this soundtrack on CD, this was back in the day, Intrada was selling it, many what a day gone by. I opened up the CD VERY carefully so I could re-package it back so they wouldn't know I did it. I had a portable CD player and put it in and started to listen to the first track. Oh my God, it was like an orgasm. My eyes slowly drifted back into my head and the music just took me away. Then the violin or viola solo came and I couldn't take it. It was, and still is, some of the most beautiful freaking music EVER composed for a film. The fact that Shire is not on the John Williams level, right now, is beyond me.
Then I skipped to track 11, HOME. OH MY GOD, I started to actually cry, when the music really gets going. I have never ever had that response to music. I am so grateful and always will be to Bruce and Bay Cities for giving me and everyone else this score. So I listened to a few more tracks and was scared so I put it back in the plastic and put a small piece of tape on it. My parents never knew what I did!! That was back in the day when my folks would order 10 so CD's for me for Christmas, titles like

One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest
Return to Oz
Peggy Sue Got Married and so many other wonderful titles.
I really really want to fly out to see David again in January and say THANK YOU, again, for giving us Return to Oz. I met him once when he came to Muncie and I thanked him so much and he said Return to Oz holds a very very special place in his heart and it's one of his most treasured scores's he's made.
That's it, I'm boring I know, blah blah.

On the contrary, DMD. Such a wonderful story. Another story that reminds us why film music is so wonderful and can transport us to beautiful places if we're open to being taken there. Thanks for sharing.

A fantastic score. I wish we could hear more from him in today's films. I'd be interested in a new cd. Perhaps detailed linear notes.

I first bought this CD in 1994 or 1995 and didn't like it. I sold it. Then 2 years ago, I was able to see the movie and guess what, I felt in love with this music so...

.. I did order it here last year, incredible low price for a collector piece, perfect transaction; Most surprising, the album was sealed and in a like-new, absolutly mint, condition, like it was just out of the plant...
Could it have been a re-print ?

Amen to everything said above about Shire's great Oz.
The "Finale and End Credits" would be a knockout for symphony concerts. It's a very well organized piece of classical music. After hearing this four-minute piece, the audience would be a puddle. I am, anyway.

I believe that RETURN TO OZ is a truly inspired piece of music (and film). I am shocked that RTO did not receive high praise or popularity when it was released. Compared to the dreck coming out nowadays....

It did...in the Films In Review "Soundtrack" column. It was one of Page Cook's favorite scores of that year, IIRC.
