Tadlow will run out of ideas after they will have rerecorded LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and TARAS BULBA. They are interested in suggestions for realistic projects that they can plan for (read the respective thread here: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=59790&forumID=1&archive=0).
As readers of that thread my have noted I've suggested to do George Antheil's Hispanic score from THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION. There is the now out of print CD album by Cloud Nine Records. But, IMHO, we would be far better served if there was a complete rerecording, produced with modern techniques.
James Fitz likes the score, too. But he thinks it won't sell. Doug Raynes supported it as well. Who else would buy such a CD? I certainly would.
If I take a look at the variety of Antheil CD titles over at amazon.com, I get the strong impression that Antheil, as little known he may be among the common soundtrack Joe, could became a decent seller with that glorious score among the classical music buyers. Crossover sort of.

There are about 62 titles listed, some are out of print, of course. And yet, it's still impressive to see the amount of titles with music by Antheil on it.
If Tadlow won't do it would Naxos or Tribute Film Classics step in?

Personally, I would wish first for a recording of Antheil's THE JUGGLER, a haunting, colorful score that has NEVER had a release, and then THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION as a follow-up, but that's just the kind of hairpin I am. So, yes, I'd definitely buy a good contemporary CD of THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION.

NOT AS A STRANGER has a also a memorable Antheil score, and the film is better than THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION, in my humble opinion.
It would by interesting to know, if the composer kept any of his film scores. One does not dare to hope that the original tapes still might be around somewhere and in good shape?

I have downright spooky connections with this score that I could never explain here, and I'd buy it for sure. But ... what does THAT mean? In betting terms. The film was not a hitter. What market you find here will be the ONLY market.

Do fans of Sinatra, Loren or Cary Grant count? Would some of them be interested in such a release? As far as I know, Antheil is better known in the classical music world. I see a considerable market in this field.

Yes, you have a point. Antheil has a big classical following and could again up the film-music profile there.

Count me in. Mr. Fitzpatrick has said that he loves this score, so we know it would be done with care and enthusiasm. And I would be willing to pre-order if it were necessary.

I don't know any sales figures but I agree that Antheil is a composer who has followers in both camps, film music and concert/classical. And over the years there have been a lot of Antheil disc releases in the latter field: symphonies, chamber, ballet, etc.

It still upsets me when I remember the day that I saw Antheil's autobiography Bad Boy Of Music, in a lovely hardback edition in a sale at a bookstore here in Dublin many years ago and I didn't have the money to buy it as I was a poor mature student at the time, wah wah!
