I have been looking for this CD for a while, but heard it was quite expensive and also that some of the music in the film is not on the CD, though i don't know which parts.

Anybody have this CD? Is it worth the cash?

I onyl have THIEF by Tangerine Dream, and can't stand it, but I do like the music in The Keep.

I had it, but the cash was worth more than the music to me, so I sold it on eBay and bought something I like a lot more. It was OK, but nothng special.

The original tracks from THE KEEP have never surfaced on CD yet.

Most other CD releases have been rerecordings form various sources including a toned down one made by Edgar Froese himself, which I;ve been told by TaDream enthusiasts pales by comparison to the genuine score.

It would seem if you hate THIEF, you won't like much else of what they have done... steer clear.

Definitely couldn't imagine someone liking The Keep and not liking Thief...

thanks for the offer of help, prevetmw, but a friend/santa, has sorted me with a copy to listen to.

Maybe it's just a case of liking the score in the film, then, for The Keep. Also, with Thief, maybe i just was in the wrong mood when i listened to it. At first i never liked the scores to Contact or the Abyss, which i can't believe now. I always keep my scores, even the ones i don't like just in case i have a change of heart - which is often.

happy holidays.

Like DeviantMan said, the official CD released by TD has virtually nothing to do with the score from the film.
The actual score (or the closest we'll see to it) is available through the Tangerine Tree project. It's (unofficially approved) by the band, so you can nab it with no worries. Sound quality ranges from excellent to okay, but is worth looking for.

Music from 'The Keep' has surfaced, even before the film came out. On there live-album 'LOGOS', a lot of music used in the film is performed by Tangerine Dream live in concert.

This is a barely a morsel of info, but I had to share, since I'm 'one of those people'
who will not rest in piece until this film & ESPECIALLY the score are properly addressed:

(A documentary of 'The Keep' produced by Stewart Buck is planned for release in 2013)

This is an excellent example of a thread title that my eyes focus on and suddenly my pulse quickens.

Right, Octoberman???

I wish I had some REAL BIG news, but any tidbit about this film is interesting.
We can only pray Mann/Paramount/Froese have figured there is some coin
to be had by giving the people what they want, for this fascinatingly flawed
masterpiece.

I like how Blake is so genial in his comments about TD's request and usage of
his piece.

I agree. Blake seems like he's really down to earth and kind.

I noticed that documentary announced at the beginning of the year. I got the impression that they don't have access to studio material though and that it's some hardcore fans of the film interviewing the pertinent talent. (a la "The Shark is Still Working").

A recording of the music as heard in the film THE KEEP is probably top of my grail list.

YOR would really like to see an expanded version of the movie, because what we got is really atrocious.

The book is so good...

And Molasar was designed by Enki Bilal! Very cool!

That's encouraging then, if it's ala the very well made JAWS fan doc you mention, there
is hope yet!
Next to Blade Runner, I think TD's KEEP is the finest, most accomplished synth score
there is - and the most neglected recording wise. Talk about a spotty album "history".

There is an excellent extended tv version ending with an incredible LONG version
of TD's final cue. The quality is horrible, it's probably still on youtube if you look, but
having that long ending on disc....yeah, that would be too good to be true in my lifetime frown

Yes, that ending is great despite the incomplete effects of Glaeken and Molasar falling. Love the full version of that track.

"Sorcerer" is my favorite Tangerine Dream score and oddly enough like "The Keep" another movie that is struggling to get a much needed director's cut/rerelease if any at all. There have also been rumors of a director's cut release but so far zilch. "The Keep" is a great score, an interesting but flawed movie and a great book.

The Tangerine Dream scores are getting remastered releases, hope "The Keep" will not be forgotten.
