Why isn't James Newton Howard scoring this? Extremely disappointing.

I couldn't agree with you more, Justin. Huge disappointment about JNH not writing this, though I'll certainly listen to it with open ears anyway, and hope that elements from his original score are used appropriately.

No J.N.H. for this.
No Silvestri for the new Predator film.

Anything else? Geez.

JNH successfully got out of scoring shitty Shymalan movies! Don't send him back to movie jail!

Either no time or as someone eluded to on twitter Jason Blum is tight with money, so maybe JNH was too expensive. Disappointing news no matter what the reason. Any interest in this film or score have disappeared.

Agreed! And JNH is too expensive for B-movies with small budget around 10 millions $.

No more JNH in Shyamalan's shitty movies!

Split was Shyamalan's best film in YEARS. It's very disappointing that Howard's not working on Glass, as the Split score was incredibly nondescript and generic. frown

Give me a break. Shyamalan gave JNH most of his best scoring opportunities out of his entire career. Even when the films left something to be desired, like Lady in the Water.

That's very disappointing to hear.

The 90s are no more.

There are a lot more finer projects to work on than continue with Shyamalan*, but I was hoping to have him back for at least the last film in the trilogy. Shyamalan did say he originally planned it was three films, so this should be it. A sad way to end it, not having J.N.H. score it.

I'm sure we'll get more of the disappointing "Split" scoring, with some mediocre lifts from "Unbreakable".

* = And don't anyone tell me about the fine jobs he's done for Shyamalan; who knows what fine jobs he may do for other people.

Shyamalan clearly has a tendency to bring out the best in JNH, perhaps After Earth aside.

Okay, I had no idea there was a second "Unbreakable."

Well, it's a stretch to call Split "Unbreakable 2" but the end of the movie revealed it to be in the "Unbreakable universe"...I very much doubt Split counts as one of the "planned trilogy" M. Night originally referred to, however. I think he was originally planning a beginning, middle, and end film for the Bruce Willis character.

It's not a stretch. Shyamalan said that was actually part of the original "Unbreakable" script, but decided to cut it out.

Yes, this!

The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
The Village (Oscar nominated)
Lady in the Water
The Happening

All superb scores.

Thordson's existing work hasn't done much for me. Mostly sound design with some spacious piano chords.... Almost anyone could replicate this sound (and have).

Count me disappointed as well. The best part of Split was when Shyamalan used Visions from Unbreakable at the end. Goes to show what really good music can do for a film.

Split was part of the original Unbreakable script? When did he say that?

Hell, even Last Airbender is pretty superb, if perhaps not *quite* at the amazing level of those six scores. Literally the only Shyamalan/Howard collaboration I found disappointing musically was their last one After Earth...maybe that has something to do with why they haven't worked together again since then?

I have it on good authority from a source who's worked with JNH before that the situation on AE is indeed the reason why they won't likely be working together anytime soon.

Well damn. Really wish Glass (and hell, Split too for that matter) could have happened before that, at least.
