Maureen Mcgovern, like the other two Irvin Allen disaster movies, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and THE TOWERING INFERNO? Did she just have it up to here with singing at disasters? I mean for me it just wasn't a great catastrophic event unless good ol' Mo was there to sing about it! I miss her as the go to girl for doom and gloom!
I know it wasn't a very serious question but I would offer that Towering Inferno and Poseidon Adventure are both centered around splashy social events where a singer and a song could be inserted organically. Where would you put a song in Swarm? That county fair?
This might be the only score I was dying to release on FSM just to have the dialogue quote on the back tray:

Yes, abruptly inserting a song into the movie would have ruined it's verisimilitude completely! Thankfully, we were left with a masterpiece of realism.
In truth, the sheer corniness and buffoonery of the film, along with the priceless dialog Lukas so wanted to highlight, are part of its ridiculous charm. Well, Jerry's utterly fantastic score didn't hurt either. What a shame FSM wasn't able to include it in their lineup!
I mean Goldsmith could have a least did a Disco Version of A GIFT OF FLOWERS which I guess would be the Love Theme of the movie.
1978 was still the height of the Disco period. No Damien Omen II Disco version either. Thank goodness COMA had one and CAPRICORN ONE had the gentle Rock Version of it's Love Theme, KAY'S THEME!
I believe Irwin Allen approached Maureen McGovern about doing one of Al Jolson's old songs, updated to tie in with film, over the film's end titles but she sensibly put her foot down, "I am NOT going to sing a song called Swarmee!"
