You don't need every Goldsmith album, Henry. Goldsmith's great popularity means that more of his work gets released than many composers. Although he's my favorite composer, I have to say that there's still a lot of duds in those huge numbers of releases. Goldsmith's also has quite a diverse sound and many prefer certain eras of his work over others. Personally, I think his work starting in the mid-60s (circa Planet of the Apes) to the late 70s (Alien, Star Trek: TMP) represent the peak of his work. If you're looking for recommendations, what are your favorite works by Goldsmith so far? Chris. So far my favorite works are his STAR TREKs, RUDY, GREMLINS 1 and 2, THE BURBS, RAMBO, POWDER and PATTON.

I would also highly recommend Bandolero and Take a Hard Ride for Westerns. MV

So far my favorite works are his STAR TREKs, RUDY, GREMLINS 1 and 2, THE BURBS, RAMBO, POWDER and PATTON. Based on your stated favorites, here's what I'd recommend: Star Treks: Try Poltergeist (if you like TMP more), First Knight (if you like Trek V more) or Timeline (if you like the TNG scores more) Gremlins and The Burbs: Others would probably recommend any of his other Dante scores,(Innerspace, Explorers, Small Soldiers, Looney Tunes), but I think you've picked out his three best comedy scores right here. Rudy: This one's obvious. Try Hoosiers - especially if you don't mind Gremlins era synths. Rambo: Try Total Recall or Capricorn One Powder: Try Medicine Man or Forever Young Patton: Try the Sand Pebbles or Islands in the Stream I also really have to recommend Frontiers as the best overall Goldsmith compilation on the market. For reference, my own top 10 Goldsmith list would look something like this: Star Trek TMP Planet of the Apes The Sand Pebbles Islands in the Stream Papillon Poltergeist First Knight Alien The Wind and the Lion Chinatown All of those are 5 star scores and I can think of at least 10 or 15 more that are as well.
