Anybody know what the story is with THE LONGEST DAY CD that SAE just announced?

http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/26558/LE-JOUR-LE-PLUS-LONG-THE-LONGEST-DAY/

Is it original tracks? Also, why does it cost so much?

The first tracks are clearly taken from the old French EP which was the original tracks. Obviously Jarre wrote very little original music for the film and was more or less just adapting Beethoven, Cole Porter and Paul Anka's title song while throwing in some interesting percussion tracks as well. It's still an interesting listen (I have the original EP). Can't say about the rest of the tracks. I'm probably in a real minority when I say I'd love to have a properly released edition of the old dialogue soundtrack Lp as well.

I'm very curious about the info on this cd when someone gets it.
There is a mix of several things on the disc, but I never really counted
DAY as an official Jarre, as stated above. And its $30 at SAE. I'll have to
check Amazon UK, thanks for the tip Lokutus - but still curious if its worth it
for any price :-/

Goblin Score, you're quite right. I just looked at the contents a little more carefully, and there does seem to be more than just THE LONGEST DAY on the CD. I too would welcome a review if anyone gets this CD.

I recognize Is Paris Burning? named there in French on track 13, but am being lazy to go fetch
a translation to the rest! I don't recognize anything, and while I don't know Francais,
I would recognize certain words/phrases at least. And where did these recordings come from, re-recs, OST??? So many questions....

By the way, I think 'Is Paris Burning?' is a ridiculous translation for a title.

Whether you look on it as from Adolf's German or French, the title should have been,

'DOES PARIS BURN?'

Far more dramatic.

Anything to do with dubbing or translation, taste goes out the window in the film industry. They forget that these disciplines need as much art as any other aspect of film-making.

Elle peut le dire à condition d'y mettre un peu les formes mais bon, t'as d'la chance que c'est ton jour de chance, coco!

Composed by Yves Baudrier -- never heard of him but he seems to have been a regular composer for René Clément.

JEUX INTERDITS (FORBIDDEN GAMES) is Narciso Yepes.

Maybe, but the 'Romance' is actually a very famous classical guitar piece, sometimes called 'Jeux Interdicts' and is anonymous. I only recognised it when I You-gled it. John Williams (no, the English guitarist) used to play this one a lot. I asked a friend who's a guitarist in his spare time and he says it's anonymous too.

It's been used in 100 TV shows:

My translation was too loose. I should just've called it 'Romance'.

I should correct myself here. Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre wrote the original book on which the film is based, so it's their publisher who should be shot. The film people could only go with the book's title.

speaking of TLD, does anyone know how paul anka, who people mainly associate as a great pop singer got the contract to compose a wonderful opening march that one does not compare to his terrific song output? the march and his great songs are so unlike each other in terms of two different styles of music.

Not an earlier version of THE TRAIN, William.

You'll find the entire movie with english captions in that Chickenhearted threat :

I have this cd for a while now. Although it is welcome to have the EP on digital support, the sound quality of the Longest Day tracks is not very good, it is directly taken from vinyl, noises can be heard.
I advise everyone to wait for a proper release of the Anka/Jarre score.

Not really. In recent times musicologists have found out that the piece had originally been composed by 18th century Spanish composer Fernando Sor. Narciso Yepes then arranged this music for guitar for René Clément's famous 1951 movie JEUX INTERDITS:
