It was disappointing that Silvestri didn't quote any of the other film scores (except Captain America, which is his score). But what's more disappointing is that he's now replaced by Tyler. I liked the Avengers main theme. And he is certainly not going to pick it up.

Brian Tyler certainly holds no reservations about using another composer's established themes in a sequel score, as anyone who has heard AVP:R can attest. Tyler wove throughout themes and references from both of Silvestri's scores, as well as Goldsmith's, Horner's, Goldenthal's, and Frizzell's. A remarkably fun listen for sharp-eared fans of the two franchises, IMHO.

Like you said... the quotes from the previous installments of both franchise scores is pretty terrific and a lot of fun. Though I will miss Alan Silvestri scoring it... I certainly welcome Brian Tyler as the composer of the sequel.
