I like few things better than poking a little fun at the hyperbole that's sometimes demonstrated here, and that'll probably carry on, because I mean no harm and, to be honest, I quite enjoy it. However, I hope that 2014 brings you all that you'd wish for yourselves. I hope that Adrian Messenger finally makes the list, that Peter Proud gets his reincarnation, and that if there are any re-recordings in the pipeline, that they turn out well and that you get the pleasure of praising them in these pages. And I hope that the labels and producers make lots of money in the process. Naturally, it'd be good if there were also lots of releases to satisfy those who, like me, have greater enthusiasm for other composers, but I'd be very happy if this coming year were remembered as a landmark one for Jerry Goldsmith fans. I miss even seeing his credit on the upcoming movie posters in what passes for theatre lobbies these days. What can I tell you. With my love of movies and of being into film soundtracks since I was around six (I was born in '59), this guy scored a large part of my life. Just for the record, the nominees for Best Original Score for a motion picture (not a musical) for 1968 were: The Lion in Winter -- John Barry (Winner) The Fox -- Lalo Schifrin Planet of the Apes -- Jerry Goldsmith The Shoes of the Fisherman -- Alex North The Thomas Crown Affair -- Michel Legrand Obviously, a lot of great scores didn't even get nominated that year, and I'd nominate OUATITW as one of the greatest scores EVER "not even nominated."
