I didn't know you liked jazz, Timmer.

I'm a long time jazz fan Jim, the album above is one of my all time favourites. Amongst other favourite artists are Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Chet Baker, Gil Evans and many many more.

Brilliant album. Sure, it has got jazz elements, but it has also got a quite strong pop feel. Last Train Home even got played on MTV.

Love this! Downbeat electronica/acoustic cool

I'd tell FB to give it a listen but he's probably already aware of this band.

Let me know what you think? They have a few albums out but that's the only one I've heard.

Listened through the samples on Amazon. Kind of Cafe Del Mar/chill out stuff, with a jazz element and more acoustic than electronic instruments. Also some prog/rock-based tracks. Interesting, but not totally my thing.

Fair enough FB, it's always worth pointing out these things, better you find out it's not your thing rather than missing out on something you might love.

Haven't got a clue what he's banging on about (it's all sung in Norwegian...)

Well, the title means The Gospel Of The Poets. I haven't heard the album, but I seem to remember it was recorded on an island just outside the city I'm from. The songs are based on poems by various norwegian poets, but I guess you understood that much... ;-)

Yeah, thanks Jon. That was pretty much to the extent of what I knew. I think the poems are all about the life of Jesus. I like the album though, good songs. I actually prefer his other Norwegian language album, 'Vogts Villa'.

Vogts Villa, of course! *That* is the album recorded on that island, and the house is called Vogts Villa. Now, the crown prince and princess lives in the house in the summer.

Disc 1

Technically as this particular disc includes excerpts from Evening Primrose (A Made for TV musical by Sondheim) this could be on the other side, but this disc is mostly early Sondheim including songs from West Side Story, Gypsy, Anyone Can Whistle, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, etc. Disc 2 starts with excerpts from Company.
