Currently wrapping up Master of Fallen Years: Complete Supernatural Stories by Vincent O'Sullivan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_O%27Sullivan), issued by the now-defunct Ghost Story Press. It goes for ridiculous prices ($450+) on the collector's market, but fortunately it's one of the relatively few expensive limited editions that's available through inter-library loan, and I'm glad I thought to check: I hadn't heard of O'Sullivan until recently, but he's a very readable writer of the morbid and this collection is pretty excellent. Recommended if you can get your hands on it.

I went back over the past few months of postings and realized I left out the somewhat revised version of Deryni Rising. This is probably the third or fourth time I have read this book since it was released as part of the Ballantine Adult Fantasy Series by then Editor Lin Carter. I still have my copy of that book from the early 1970s. The current version I picked up on my Nook. Long before Harry Potter there was a book about a teen who was about to ascend to the throne of a fantasy kingdom where the Deryni sorcerers were persecuted by the church and the teens right to the throne is being challenged by a full Deryni Sorceress.

Currently reading the revised sequel to Deryni Rising on my Nook:

Update 9/1/12 1/2 way through. I'd forgotten about some of the blood that gets spilled in these books. Not a complaint though as certain periods of history even in alternate worlds can be bloody. smile The annoying thing about Kurtz is that even with lightly detailed characters you find yourself saying, Damn I liked that character, why did he or she have to die?

Cool. Thanks, boss. I'll put it up a few notches on my to-read pile.

Crom! Sadly, the last Conan stories ever written by Howard. But what a joy they are to read.

Your picture didn't show, so I fixed it. I miss the 1960 and 1970s Conan releases with the additional work by DeCamp, Carter and Nyborg. And the Frazetta covers on the majority of the books.

Thanks! I am still trying to get a handle on posting images on this board.

I have a few of the 1960s and 1970s releases, and Frazetta painted some amazing covers. In fact, him and John Buscema are the definitive Conan artists for me. Have you looked at the recent Del Rey releases? I am really enjoying reading the stories as Howard originally wrote them.

There is a stage version of this book which later became a movie. We did the play when I was in high school. One of the truly great works of American lit.

A stage version?! I guess they have adapted a couple of chapters only. If not this would run days, if not weeks! What part did you play?

I played Will Pentland and understudied W.O. Gant. The show ran nearly 2 years on Broadway. Anthony Perkins was Eugene Gant.
