nice selection tho. that waz tough that final, cheering the hammers but wanting Moore and Mullery to do well.

Even Mullery waz a favourite because of his place in the 70 eng side - he scored a textbook box to box goal in that tournament - playing passes in his penalty area, following the move up the pitch and getting on the end of the cross in the oppo box. Wonderful goal.
He waz very proud of that goal, showed it to his grandchildren. I expect TG and kev wil remember it.

Just a bit before my time, Bill.
The first game I remember watching was Liverpool v Newcastle FA Cup Final 1973 (I was 8).
I started goin the game around '75-'76...stopped around the late '80s, when the prices started getting silly (and compared to now, it was probably more believable, economy-wise).

Bad news for your boys again Bill (and TG, for that matter).
We hope to arrest a slide tomorrow at Sunderland, but I'd rather have been playin against Di Canio's mutineers than some interim everybody is out to impress!
Still, with the mancs losing (again), it won't be all sadness if things go bad! smile

You got double happiness today, because the powder blue side of the city lost as well.

Was West Brom at home one of the difficult early fixtures that Moyes was moaning about?

"You got double happiness today, because the powder blue side of the city lost as well"
-------------------------------
But in the confused and confusing life of a football fan Jim, I like City and their fans. No smugness or arrogance from them, just a bewildered joy that their long under-achieving team have hit the money-market jackpot and can now give their hated rivals a run for their money.
You almost sense them enjoying the moment while it lasts, they don't trust it to stick around too long.
Of course, I would never offer this courtesy to Everton or their fans (who have suffered similarly over the years), cos they're just bitter, twisted and beyond help! wink
None of it makes sense, you see.

It's been my experience--or belief--that when a long-suffering franchise *finally* wins something they become just as insufferable as the long-standing winners. In the U.S, the baseball team Boston Red Sox hadn't won a thing since 1918 until they won the title in 2004 and 2007. Now they're nearly as awful as their rival New York Yankees, who at least have done enough winning to know what it's like.

As for Man City, they're a billionaire's plaything cynically put together to win right away who nonetheless massively underachieved last season. Maybe because of Roberto Mancini but they were flat all season long, though losing the FA Cup Final to relegated Wigan was a deeeeelight. big grin

Week Six: September 28-30, 2013

Hull 1 West Ham 0- The Hammers concede an early goal and never respond as they fall again to 16th in the table.

Sunderland 1 Liverpool 3- The Reds overcome a scrappy but bottom-dwelling Sunderland as Luis Suarez scores two goals. Daniel "Body Popper" Sturridge lends an arm and scores his fifth of the season.

English Championship

Millwall 2 Leeds United 0- Leeds continue their free fall as they "hit a Millwall" (nyuk nyuk) and are 15th in the table.

as for man city - u r both right kev and jim. Losers who become bankrolled winners do become quickly arrogant and mouthy. i always liked city fans aslike us they lived in shadow of big flash rival.
However they have become what i despise about many man u fans.
that said if hammers got bought by qatar money i would quickly become the most obnoxious fan you could meet just get my own back for years of Arse, tott and chels crowing!!
haha

West ham shit. no threat up front. As i said, heading for relegation zone. Losing each week and we aint played anyone yet - we are struggling against fellow bottom half candidates.

The final was Everton 3 Newcastle 2.

Everton play Manchester City on October 5 at the Ethiad. It should be the match of the week. I'm looking forward to it.

And of course Oct 1-2 is Champions League football.

Arsenal and Chelsea both won. I'm sure those results stirred the hot blood in your English hearts...

Come on, kids! This is Champions League football!

Manchester City 0 Bayern Munich 3 as of the 62nd minute.

At the Ethiad no less. I suppose City can still come back but they're so accustomed to having their Champions League arse handed to them; I find it highly unlikely they will make a game of it. smile

apologies for lack of champs lge interest among yr fellow posters jim.
Bearing in mind liverpool not there, leeds not there and Tg unlikely to go near a t.v when Ewanited are on in case he turns over the channel and catches some of it.
Me? well im so down on football because hammers are so utterly shit and relegation beckons that i cannot drum up any enthusiasm for any football.

I did actually see a little of chelsea and a little of bayern and a few min of united but none of them were holding my attention. Ibramhimovitch was a bit good for psg though. saw on sky sp news.

That's okay, Bill. Sports can bring heartbreak at any given moment. I'm sure the Joe Hart shampoo advert will cheer you up, though.

It's amusing but it doesn't come close to NFL star Troy Polamulu's adverts for same:

Last night's English Championship match:

Leeds United 2 Bournemouth 1- Leeds ends its three-game slide with a win at home. I watched the highlights on Sky but they really aren't that high of a light. wink Congrats to TG, though.

Moyes spent 10 years at Everton trying to finish above Man Utd. Looks like he's achieved it now...

As for Man Citeh, it was an embarrassment for them against Bayern. They spent a lot of money in the summer, and some of those players look way overpriced. As for Joe Hart? I think Hodgson should bite the bullet and play Fraser Forster for England. Looks a safer bet to me.

Another great quote from 'I Am Zlatan', this time about Our Wayne...

"I think he made it clear in the summer that he wanted a fresh challenge - and things have not been going so well for Manchester United this season. If he still wants to move next summer or even in January I would urge him to come and play with me in Paris. The only direction this club is going is up, but if he did join he would have to get used to the fact that Zlatan scores even better goals than he does."

You jest, but there's no guarantee that Man United finish above Everton this season. There's plenty of time for a lot of things to happen.

Man City spends a lot of money every summer. Just look at how many of their high-priced players are elsewhere or not playing, period. You know about Kolo Toure, Tevez is at Juventus, Gareth Barry is on loan at Everton, and Jack Rodwell hasn't even played this season.

As for England, they just ought to bring back David James. He's as good as any in the whole country. Maybe Rob Green, too. big grin

Thanks, Jim! I was at that game as well, a rare treat seeing the boys three times in about a month. It was great to thrash the mighty Bournemouth (who had ten men for two thirds of the game) and soar up the table as a result.

Three points is three points.
