I think the main point is, why hasn't he DIRECTED any of those small-scale films he talked about. Producing and co-exec'ing ain't like lending YOUR own personal vision to something. It's been said he's quite a nervous and shy person, so maybe the thought of something quite intimate and small just became to big for him to accomplish. Guess we'll never know.
I wasn't joking about the Howard the Duck remark; that's what someone actually said in the documentary.
As for Star Wars, I wonder why he feels the need to return to it and to waste time tinkering on what obviously isn't broken. He had sixteen years to write the screenplay to TPM and the end result has largely been viewed as a failure. Yes, those movies made money but that name brand is clearly a powerful one. That gullible and overly-sentimental fan base (IMO) and a highly, highly aggressive hype machine leads to financial success but the end result was three critical failures and I'm sure most of the fans dislike those films, as well; or maybe not(?). I suppose he'll revisit the prequels sometime up the road. Unless he got those "right" the first time around.
Thanks for the long and insightful reply, Joe. I wasn't joking about the Howard the Duck remark; that's what someone actually said in the documentary.
With the success of GOTG and a wise cracking CGI racoon I think it's a sure bet your wish will come true.
Did you not see that Howard is actually in Guardians of the Galaxy?
I seriously doubt anyone will do anything to "fix" the movie. The only change I see as reasonably likely is the studio logo at the beginning, if the film's ownership changes studio hands, as it does with movies from time to time. I suppose it's conceivable there might be a version sometime with deleted scenes reinserted (or extant scenes taken out, to make it a little more family-friendly), but nobody's ever going to spend big bucks on some sort of drastic overhaul of this movie. Especially now that Howard is part of the MCU, it's far likelier that he'll just get a whole new movie sometime, and even that is highly unlikely.
Oops. Apologies; perhaps I should have put that in a spoiler tag. Then again, given that you seem not particularly interested in the movie anyway, I guess it's not a huge issue...
But anyway, yes, Howard the Duck is (briefly) in the movie, as part of the Collector's collection. He can be fleetingly glimpsed there during the main body of the movie "proper", if you know where to look, and then the movie's post-credits "stinger" is given over to him - he's the focus of the very last scene in the movie.
Oh, and it makes for a fun bit of trivia: all of Howard's feature film appearances (all both of them ) came out on the same day, as Guardians of the Galaxy was released on August 1, 2014 - 28 years to the day after Howard the Duck came out on August 1, 1986.

Haha! Didn't know that. No problem on the "spoiler". As you guessed I'm not into Marvel Universe stuff. So no harm no foul.
PLUS it has one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen in my life. Laughed so hard I was in tears; totally unexpected.
Warlok, you there old sport? Which scene? I know I laughed pretty damned hard at the bit when the guy is smashing the Star Wars products off the wall and then is later shown rocking back-and-forth while clutching a Millennium Falcon toy.

Nope... it was when that *singer* belts out his song to/about George Lucas... I swear I was clutching my gut and rolling around I was laughing so hard. For anyone who has not seen it, its not anything I can possibly adequately describe... .
This is one I hear trotted out every so often, and it always mystifies me why people think the money they've spent on this one franchise entitles them to a piece of it (that they don't have), when they don't expect the same of any other movie or series. Every time somebody bought a movie ticket to Star Wars, they got to see it, as with anything else. And every time they bought a piece of merchandise got them that piece of merchandise. It's bizarre how someone will grumble about how Lucas "took" all this money from them while giving them nothing in return, and they'll say it in front of a shelf unit with eight hundred action figures on it...
The "correct" phrase is "George Lucas raped my childhood."
I don't know who exactly came up with that hideous saying but there is a rather putrid song with that title in the 'People Vs. George Lucas' documentary.

LOL, yeah that's taking it to far. Lucas didn't steal or rape my childhood. I still have fond memories of seeing Star Wars in the theater. Best memories of my childhood. (Though of course I do wish for unaltered HD versions of these films.)
