Just watched The Graduate again and I had totally forgotten about the beautifully simple April Come She Will. It's a forgotten song, considering its place in the film. I don't think I've ever heard it on the radio, either.

"I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles, Such are promises..."

Great line from The Boxer.

"If I never loved I never would have cried"

One of my favourite lines from "I am a Rock"

"Sail on Silver Girl. Sail on By. Your time has come to shine. All your dreams come their way."

Another favourite from "Bridge over troubled water"

"...all your dreams are on their way." smile

Yes, and a lyric which has a great personal meaning with someone in my life. I love when music takes on a deeper, more profound meaning as we grow older (but perhaps not wiser).

I'll have to amend my longstanding opinion of "Homeward Bound." For years the only version I heard was the "Greatest Hits" album with the live audience overdubs and hilariously early '70s appearance of S&G:

See? Simon's already morphing into "Tony Lacey."

Hearing that "live" version of Homeward Bound wiped out the nuances like the percussion and quiet, reflective nature of the song. Hearing it unadorned reveals a delicate and beautifully wistful composition that stands with S&G's best work.

It's funny: for years I thought the man in the gabardine suit's camera was in his false eye. Only a while ago did I realise it was in his bow-tie.

Who can say why?

"I said be careful his bow-tie is really a camera."

It's not until you get to a certain age you figure that one out. So the songs really do morph as you get older.

I also really, really like Art Garfunkel's 'Breakaway,' but he's solo on that one.

They're a great bunch of songs, however, the finale to Emily's song is outstanding and the acoustic guitar seems to be having an emotional episode.

Paul Simon looks like a dog in that cover photo.

In chronological order I especially like:

Benedictus
Wednesday Morning 3am (and its rock and roll remake Somewhere They Can't Find Me)
The Sound of Silence
The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine
Feelin' Groovy
Mrs. Robinson
At the Zoo
America
Bookends Theme
A Hazy Shade of Winter
Fakin' It
(can I say the entire Bookends album? wink)
El Condor Pasa
Cecilia
Keep the Customer Satisfied
Bridge Over Troubled Water
My Old Town

It's quite difficult to narrow the list down. They recorded a relatively low quantity of songs together, but almost all of very high quality.

Favorite Paul Simon song: Duncan (I have many more favorites of his after that, but I really love Duncan for its evocative music and lyrics.)
