Ok man, I loved my Laserdiscs. I still have some of them, but my player broke down ages back.

I was fortunate to be able to sell off many discs before the rug got pulled out. I only sold the titles I knew would be released to DVD, and most have.

I rather miss looking through the racks at Laserland. It reminded me of the days I used to search for soundtrack LP's in the record stores.

I had a friend do something like that. He just wanted the book. I think it was the special edition of the African Queen. I still have my copy so I'll check to see if that was the one.

As one who escaped all that Boool sheeeet of the 80's and 90's, I'd really like to know how those poor dumb saps feel about spending a lot of money for nothing...

Well in return for their money that got a copy of a film that they enjoyed on a format that they were interested in so I don't know if many of them would say they wasted their money. The real question is why you are going around calling people dumb fools just because they chose to buy something you didn't. I'm sure you've got tons of shit that they think is a waste of money but I'm guessing they wouldn't say it because they wouldn't want to be rude.

He got spanked by an admin awhile back and now he trashes and insults what people enjoy to see if he can get others in trouble. Ignore him, everyone else does.

Very dumb comment, However I must say I never got "sucked in" to all that 1970s thru 90s VHS "boool sheeeet".

Lasers were great. some laser presentations are still better than their DVD counterparts. The digetal sound was always better than DVD. I always hoped a 12 inich ALL digetal disc would become available, the picture was analog and only 60 minutes could fit on one side.. Imagine the capabilities! However the industry went the DVD route. But we came full circle in way with Blu-ray.

Yes, a sad zapp that obviously is a troublemaker...(do hope he´s thrown out of here soon smile )

About LD , many bought these and then upgraded to DVD , but that is life...
Some movies I first had on VHS, later laserdiscs, then DVD and now Blu-Ray and Im not angry or sad about the money I have put down in those over and over again as I have gotten better quality by every upgrade and when I first bought my VHS, Blu-Ray didnt exist...

Yes, we came full circle with Blu-ray at less cost. Many wasted their time, money and effort with that Laserdisc nonsense.

Well you have to do something with your time & money, using it to bring pleasure seems like a good idea to me, & it's all wasted in the end anyway!

I think many can argue that owning cd's or blu-rays is a huge waste of money considering everything is becoming available on the internet cheaper and free (if you know where to look) and in the case of movies a wide range of HD content is already available.

Aside from my fysical collection, I have two terra gig drives stored with movies and music. I can't remember the last time I burned a DVD or CD. It all goes onto the drive.

What it boils down to is getting the most usage out of your discs. It's not a waste of money if you get your entertainment value out of it. Plus I like all the extra's that accompagny blu-rays and cd's so that makes it worthwhile for me.

Lasers led the way for DVD. VHS was a waste of time. What do tou know about lasers anyhow? You can argue buying CDs is a waste of time & money and for that matter books magazines or any other type of media. You are full of a lot of nonsence!

I don't regret buying laserdiscs at all. When I started buying them in 1982 it was ~15 years BEFORE DVDs hit the market in the US. Meanwhile I was enjoying video and sound quality well beyond any other media source available and I did so for a number of years. I'm just not one to wait around and settle for lesser quality if greater quality is available, especially for a period as long as 15 years. I also rented laserdiscs from a local electronics store at near the price for a VHS rental so weighing the minimal difference in price for the much greater quality...a no brainier for me!

VHS was a waste of time.

I beg to differ. For over a decade it was the best medium for movies plus it gave the consumer the option of recording movies themselves. Even when DVD was at its height, I know few people who used it to record with and still worked with VHS. I must have taped over the same VHS countless of times.

Sure there were DVD recorders, but those were expensive along with re-writable dvd's and made way fast for internal drive recorders and nowadays you just tivo it and it's all done digitally without any discs or tapes.

Wow. That is quite harsh.

I felt pretty darned good, actually. LDs had their day and a decent run. Are you really putting people down for wanting to to enjoy their favorite films on the best home video format at the time?

It felt GREAT:

1 - I had the money.

and

2 - I was able to laugh at the folks like you pretending to watch movies with low-fi video and audio. smile

It was the best home video format you could have during its time.
