Season 18 is a favourite of mine for many reasons. The last Tom Baker season, the first time the Radiophonic Workshop handled the music scoring full time, and the return of The Master after five years. It was after this season I entered 'official' fandom in a big way. Joining the Doctor Who Appreciation Society and doing conventions. It was also after this season aired that we were treated to a rerun season of stories from all the Doctors up to this point ('The Five Faces of Doctor Who') whilst we waited for the arrival of Peter Davison's first season. Something never done before on UK tv, repeats of previous lead actor's Doctor Who stories. Sadly I won't be bothering with these BDs while they are limited editions. Not keen on digipack style packaging, or the idea that we have to rush to get 'em before they're off the market unless we want to spend stupid money. If they don't release them in nice standard plastic packaging I'll content myself with not double-dipping and carry on enjoying the dvds. Cheers BBC you sure know how to persuade me to save money.

I'm perfectly happy with the DVDs. As I've said before, it's mostly studio footage recorded on video cameras, so there's no real benefit to a blu-ray release. And the new extras aren't motivation to buy them either. Season 18 is also a favourite of mine. It's an improvement over what had gone before. I'd suggest Seasons 18 and 19 are the high point of the entire run. While the last opinion is a little on the strong side for someone who grew up with the first four Doctors, I do agree about Season 18. It was breath of fresh air when it came after the Graham Williams produced series, especially the slap-happily made 17. And your point about the amount of improvement in quality over the dvds is of course the main reason for not double dipping. I suppose I was hoping they would not only be slimmer in non-limited edition packaging, but also eventually sold at sale price, by which time I MIGHT succumb to the extras and that minimal improvement.

The issue is quite simple, JJ. It's called fleecing a gullible fanbase. But if the US and Australian releases are non-limited, it bodes well for possible later straight releases here. All the new series boxsets came out in regular packaging after initial releases. And the UK Amazon entries do say "Limited Edition PACKAGING". So I'll play the waiting game. It's not as if I haven't got them anyway in reasonably good dvds. We also get 'steelbook' releases, as with Shada, which was also released as a standard package, but guess what? Without the previous versions of the story (vhs/net based Paul McGann versions). Only the steelbook one had those, while the US and Australia of course got the lot in standard packs. There's a phrase over here: 'rip-off Britain". And these are good examples. Oh, and unless you're joking the 'Season One' just relates to the first Davison Season.

Paul, That seems to be the case with the US release. It's available at shops like Best Buy as well as Barnes and Noble. The design I've seen for the Australian release would indicate it's the limited edition, but I can't be certain. If it's a case of the regular style packaging arriving at a later date, then perhaps I will wait for these.

Oh, and unless you're joking the 'Season One' just relates to the first Davison Season. Amazon should do a better job of obtaining better artwork...LOL I do think that it's going to get confusing somewhere down the line. There's Colin Baker's first story which is not part of his first season, and being extremely optimistic there's the last Hartnell/first Troughton season. Maybe someone somewhere should have thought about something more generic for the range that actually works..
