Socially speaking, I'll be traveling upstate to St. Augustine next week so there will be ample opportunities to sample the boozy delights of that fine city.

I'm just north of Miami, so St. Augustine is about three hundred miles (about four and a half hours by car) to the northeast of me. It's pretty close to the state of Georgia.

Cool. Do they have microbreweries in Miami? I've never heard of anything special, beer-wise, from that territory.

There are a few but I cannot comment on their quality, as I've never tried their stuff. Apparently there's a winery as well, called Schnebly, which makes wines from just about everything, including avocado(!). They also have a brewery, so if ever you find yourself in this part of the world, give their "Little Havana Cafe con Leche" stout a try. wink

Thanks for the info!

I've had a moderate 8 beers tonight -- all alone at home (I had the need to wind down). My tolerance level is now so high that I'm barely tipsy. Still, a nice night. Hope I have the energy to do all the things I need to do tomorrow.

Two colleagues at work gave me a bottle each of "Cremas", a Haitian egg nog made with rhum. One is homemade and the other is by the renowned Rhum Barbancourt brand. I'm bringing it up for my trip to St. Augustine tomorrow; looking forward to it.

Just got back from my regular afternoon constitution. Had two amazing pints in the Crown, Elsecar (Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England) of Osset Brewery's Christmas Ale, Silver Bells.

There was a time when Christmas Ale meant a sickly brown rich brew. These are not to my taste. With pale hoppy brews being all the rage these days here in the UK (which are to my taste, the more bitter the better), they've realised that it's a good idea to stick a hand pump clip with a Christmas theme on a pale beer, whether or not it's a genuinely new brew.

All I can say is it was stunning. And then two pints of Barnsley Gold from the wonderful Acorn Brewery of Wombwell, Barnsley, in the Market a mere 7 minutes further down the village, my afternoon was complete.

Cheers.

Also returned from 5-6 beers with a few friends of mine -- a Wednesday-after work-mini-Christmas party thingie. Of course, we had to cut it off early, as people have work tomorrow.

It's impossible to control hiccuping when drunk.

Had 5 beers out on the town yesterday after a music quiz. Can't remember the last time I had so much.

Looking forward to a chilled and relaxing non-alcoholic evening with some friends tonight. ;-)

I admire your sobriety, FB. I think I had 15 beers and two glasses of red wine yesterday.

I think it's important to be able to meet people in a social setting without always having to drink alcohol.

Makes it all the more "natural".

My two cents anyway.

Agreed. But I just can't help myself sometimes.

Christmas is near and though I am going to the in-laws' place, I have much to fortify myself and possibly others: homemade Haitian Cremas as well as some of the bottled variety, Columbian rum--all acquired from colleagues from work--and yet another batch of Sangria for consumption. I hope to score some Cava for New Year's Eve.

I have some Spansh wine handy for New Year's Eve tonight. It'll be just mi esposa y yo esta noche. Just watching the first two Thin Man movies...I lead such an exciting existence. wink

Celebrating alone, Jim?

I'll have an unusually calm New Year's Eve today. Soon off to a friends' house, and it will be just him and his girlfriend, his brother (who's also a friend of mine) and myself. But I'll still be drinking loads, of course. I even have a 0.75 bottle of Delirium Christmas beer (10%) that I need to down.

Perhaps I need a change of pace, though. Last year, I partied so hard (went to three different parties with lots of people in their 20s) that I lost my coat along the way.

Yes, I'll be with my wife. wink

Happy New Year, Thor. See you in 2016 for more (responsible) drunken revelry!

I will celebrate with a few friends tonight, having delicious indian food.

I have also made a quiz on Kahoot for the evening. Always a success!
