"we better ask Kev how he feels about that appointment!!"
--------------------------------------
Well Bill, I've got no problems with Rodgers' appointment. He seems a good manager with strong ideas. He's gonna need a lot of time, as he's inherited a big ship that's been listing for years now. I think the high expectations of LFC fans, who still expect success and silverware every year, doesn't help (something that isn't helped by the team still winning things most years, despite being in decline - look at Arsenal who haven't won a trophy for a very long time but still, importantly, dine at the Champions League Table most years).
I actually cannot abide this new 'every moron has a voice' situation with twitter and facebook - and yes, I am aware of the irony of my typing here wink - it doesn't help matters much. You know the ones...SACK THE MANAGER!!! SACK THE BOARD!!! BRING KING KENNY BACK!!!
I'll take a steady ship season this year. The shambles of the deadline day hasn't helped either, with the board asking Rodgers to offload some deadwood and unwanted players (he did) and promising to bring some fresh faces he required in (they didn't).
The eternal optimist in me still sees us challenging the top four come March-April smile

I like Rodgers and hope he does well. The transfer situation was a bit weird, with all the outgoings and nothing coming in. We've got Spearing from you for the year, who is apparently decent. Although in our side i think an FSM 11 would beat Bolton. I'm a LeTissier type - looks and everyfink.

nice piece in todays Sun - and maybe other papers - talking about the americans at Liverpool more ruthless stance on transfers after bankrolling Dalglish's rather poor-choice spend up and not getting much back.
Seems to me they have gone too far the other way now and have stuffed themselves.
They wont be the first team to have rich people in the boardroom who apply worldwide business rules to football and dont quite get it.
I know a Prem MD who told me a story about a player they were after. The Chairman wanted a month to make sure every aspect of the deal was looked at. The MD said I told the Chairman the player will be at new club by Tuesday if we dither. They dithered. He signed for a new club by Monday night.

Belgium has an astonishingly good set of players just now. I hope that they can recreate the glory days of Paul van Himst etc.

WTF - Gerrard said England can win WC?

Idiot.

That was the headline, but let's see what he actually said:

"When I speak, I'm realistic and honest. At the moment we're not one of the favourites to win the World Cup but that doesn't mean you stop believing, working hard to improve and try to learn from mistakes you have made in previous tournaments. We have to have that faith and keep believing. You never stop believing in football. Miracles do happen."

"I think we can safely say it's definitely my last World Cup. I'm at that age where I need to make all the time count and give it my best. It's probably my last campaign so let's try to make the most of it."

It looks more coherent on paper than it would have sounded in that improbably nasal twang, despite the inconsistent use of pronouns, but I don't think he said anything that could be argued with (depending on your definition of miracles).

Beware the headline writers!

I am another that was pleased to see Rodgers take over (well I'd rather he stayed with Swansea but thats another matter), I just hope that he is given a decent time to get the team settled without people asking for his head.

Its a shame that so called fans bay for blood after a couple of defeats for a new manager they don't seem to understand that it takes time to right the ship and change its course. With the lack of signings I think it will be tough for Brendan but I'm glad that Andy Carroll has gone elsewhere on loan as I don't particularly like him.

He was too much of a thug for my tastes at Newcastle and he goes down particularly easily. Not the sort of player I like to see at Liverpool (I'd really like to see them bring more in from their youth team rather than by expensive players, take their time and build for the future)

anyway, this thread should be dead till next saturday!

Poxy england playing rollover moldova and various whipping boys in the easiest group anyone could have drawn them in even if the draw was done on fantasy island. Wake me up in October next year when they top the group.
The thing is, everyone knows they will, as ever, come up short when the tournament starts proper. It almost seems like a waste of time and as for the papers doing pullouts and drumming up enthusiasm for world cup prospects, I aint buying it.

It's being so cheerful that keeps you going! WHU might even have a player in the side by then - I'll give you a clue: 6'3" Geordie with a liking for Pantene and Carlsberg...maybe in the same glass.
