no, it is a blockbuster and critical success, where I went, "that's it?" Don't think I've ever seen a more divisive film be so successful. Indeed a paradox. This statement got my wife and myself contemplating our decision to see the movie. IIRC, we went the 1st time without being aware of the nature of the film generally, apart from the fact that the Luke and Leia characters were going to still be in it and we wanted to see the resolution of the Rey/Luke interaction - admittedly with the expectation that it would follow the narrative and style set up by Lucas and Abrams. For us, we felt we were taken for a ride in the sense that the film had pretty much been clumsily saturated in a particular stance of the so-called 'culture wars', to the extent it didn't feel like Star Wars any more. We will not be returning to see Episode IX, although I will buy the Williams' score. Couldn't resist that one. Oh, and I will not be buying The Last Jedi Blu-ray.
