Interestingly, I have no nostalgic connection to the movie, despite growing up in that exact period. For some reason, I didn't see when I was a kid. But I saw it as an adult, and liked it. I'm sure I would have been all over it, had I seen it back then.

The above has been my experience as well. I was 14 in 1985, and was just out of the film's target age range. I don't think I even saw Goonies in its entirety until 2006 or so. The movie's okay, but I prefer more of a STAND BY ME-style coming of age story.

YES, I am a Goonies fan and so is my wife. That was the first film we had a common love for being 80's kids. Now we try to have our son watch it and he has no interest. Oh well, not for everyone.

I get all "deep" and "reflective" in this Goonies thread from a few years back:

The Goonies DVD has a fun commentary on it.

It is a good picture with real average movie kids, not like we have now, deep kids, troubled kids, angst ridden cynical kids, vampire kids etc.

I found it unwatchable. Lots of annoying 80's kids and stupid @ss characters. Had a big crush on Kerri Green though.

Totally Awesome! wink Finally, something Spielbergian or from the 1980s you don't like!

As fast as that god-damned score sold out, one would think that The Goonies has a ton of fans.

I've always been very critical. There's tons of hits in the 80's (and 70's) I didn't like. It's just the ratio of good and bad is a lot bigger nowadays.

I will say one positive thing about The Goonies: Chunk was HILARIOUS. Stole the damned movie!

A pity Cohen's career never blossomed after this iconic scene razz in Stand By Me, he was good then his career just fizzled out.

As a transplanted ex-resident of the east mooring basin (the so-called "Goondocks"), I would say that yes I'm a fan of Oregon's national movie.
