"Shooting Star" by Cliff Richard and the Shadows (from the downright creepy marionette film "Thunderbirds Are Go").

How about "Star Trekkin'" by The Firm? (And the B-Side - 'Start Wreckin'...fnar...)

Starship Trooper by....oh...whoever that damn group was....

Does "The Land of Make Believe" by Bucks Fizz count? 'Stars in your eyes, little one, where do you go to dream?' etc etc etc.....it's kinda spacey, and it does mention Superman a time or three....and it's a damn good song....

on behalf of the thread originator and all sensible thinking people on this forum, you are not having it! ha ha.

Gee with all my fellow Trek fans on here, no one has yet mentioned Beyond Antares from season one of the original series.

If no one else has mentioned it already:

The Rolling Stones's "2000 Light Years From Home"

Thanks! My personal favorite.
I guess #2 on my list would be Interstellar Overdrive by Pink Floyd.

Nick Winters (aka Bill Murray):

Oh Star Wars,
Nothing but Star Wars,
Give me those Star Wars,
Dont let them end.

Oh Star Wars,
If they should bar wars,
Please let these Star Wars
Stay.

And hey, how 'bout that nutty Star Wars Bar,
Can you forget all those crazy creatures in there?
And hey, Darth Vader in his black and evil mask,
Did he scare you as much as he scared me?

Oh Star Wars,
Those near and far wars,
Oh STAAAR WAAAAAAARS!"

and:

A first encounter, you
Next encounter, me
The third encounter's love
The Close Encounters, theeeeme
Close Encounters theme.

"Flying Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley

Well, I saw the thing
A comin' out of the sky
It had a one long horn
And a one big eye
I commenced to shakin'
And I said "oohwee
It looks like a Purple
People Eater to me"

It was a one-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' Purple People Eater
Sure looked strange to me
One eye

Well, he came down to earth
And he lit in a tree
I said, "Mister Purple People Eater,
Don't eat me"
I heard him say
In a voice so gruff,
I wouldn't eat you
Cause you're so tough

It was a one-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' Purple People Eater
One-eyed, one-horned
Flyin' purple people Eater
Sure looked strange to me
One horn

I said, "Mister Purple People Eater,
What's your line?"
He said,
Eatin' purple people,
And it sure is fine.
What is the reason
That you came to land
I wanna get a job
In a rock 'n roll band

Well, bless my soul, rock 'n roll
Flyin' Purple People Eater
Pigeon-toed, under-growed
Flyin' Purple People Eater
He wears short shorts
A friendly little People Eater
What a sight to see
Oooohhh
And then he swung from the tree
And he lit on the ground
And he started to rock,
A-really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty
With a swingin' tune, singin'
Bop bapa loop a lap
A loom bam boom
Well, bless my soul rock 'n roll
Flyin' Purple People Eater
Pigeon-toed, under-growed
Flyin' Purple People Eater
I like short shorts
A Flyin' Purple People Eater
What a sight to see
Purple people

Well, he went on his way
And then what-a you know
I saw him last night
On a TV show
He was blowin' it out,
Really knockin' 'em dead
Playin' rock 'n roll music
Through the horn on his head
Boogie woogie

"Planet Nine" by Nick John. I was the only one of my friends who not only liked this song, but even heard of it...

Just get past the absurdly long intro...
