As a kid I heard the occasional song on AM radio (Close to You, We've Only Just Begun) and thought they were very good. Then one day in the late 1970s I found a Carpenters LP at the church rummage sale for a quarter. It was "The Singles: 1969-1973" and it blew me away. This was never going to get old. (Who gives that to the rummage sale, in primo condition? I made out like a bandit.)

In the CD era I upgraded to the 2 disc set, "Classics Volume 2"

http://www.amazon.com/25th-Anniversary-CARPENTERS/dp/B000002GLG/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1391740039&sr=1-1&keywords=the+carpenters+classics+volume+2

One awkward thing about The Carpenters is that they seem to have more greatest-hit and compilation albums than anyone can keep track of. Even Wikipedia doesn't list them all.

But I will never tire of her voice.

Well maybe it was because everything they did was nearly great[ha-ha-ha-] well I wouldn't go that far, but thinking about it, I don't think they ever had a lemon. They were great at what they did choose to sing and her great voice worked wonders with the compositions. Man I wish she did a bunch of film themes. BARRY FOR ONE, try to picture that ?

an amazing voice - deeply missed -

when I listen to her now , certain songs bring me to tears - there is something so moving in her depth of connection to the words and music -

My favourite Carpenters song, not terribly well-known, but written by Henry Mancini to a birthday poem he received from his daughter Felice -

The Carpenters were largely before my time, but I began hearing their music years ago when I first got XM Radio.

Karen's voice was quite lovely. I had no idea she'd died so young, either. frown

Ok I will listen to yours now too[ha-ha] a song I really liked that some people didn't like of theirs was BECAUSE WE ARE IN LOVE it made me think what Karen's voice could have done with some strong film themes, of course she did do a few, FRED KARLIN BARRY DEVORZON.

Back when I was a kid and all googly eyed over Steven Spielberg I had this fantasy I would become a film director and hire the Carpenters to write and sing all the songs in my film. It would have been epic.
Special shout out to Richard too. He was and is a great talent in his own rights.

Sure was, but when you have a partner with a voice like Karen it's easy to be overshadowed.

When I was a teenager my favorite song of them was ONE LOVE-so touching so haunting and so real. Karen gave off emotions that few singers could do.
