A nice essay on the Stadium's end.

The Marlins trip up the Mets once again, 6-1, this time scoring early and leading the entire game. A measure of payback, because I still cringe when I think of Beltran's GW GS HR against the Fish...the Marlins were never really the same after that.

Is TJ still around the forums? IIRC, he was a dedicated Angels fan and since they're having such a good season, I thought that maybe he would "chime in" once in awhile.

I risk getting my butt kicked by your brother anytime I post around here! The message board equivalent of getting "buzzed" by Don Drysdale or Bob Gibson...

The A.L. playoff picture is about set:

Boston Red Sox at California wink Angels

and

Chicago White Sox or Minnesota Twins at Tampa Bay Rays

I hope the Angels finally avenge some past defeats. I'm tired of them having the number of only one AL East team in postseason!

If the Mets get knocked out by the Marlins a second year in a row, the scene of John Hurt in "Spaceballs" going, "Oh no, not again!" would be the perfect illustration.

If the Red Sox win the WS again this year, are they a "dynasty"? Three championships in five years...

Two in a row with another championship spaced closely does count toward the true definition of "dynasty." One stumble that would make the Sox lower than other dynasties is that they have one year of missing the playoffs in that span.

The Cubs / Brewers game on FOX this afternoon without a doubt is going to have some really good overnight ratings in NY after the Mets won against Florida earlier today.

The Brewers just lost to the Cubs in what looked like it was going to be a nail biter, but the Cubs helped out the Mets big time .

The race for the wild card is now tied today between the Mets and Brewers going into the last day of regular season play tomorrow.

And with the last game for the Mets at Shea tomorrow and the ceremonies planned and all the drama of one game to decide whether the Mets make it to post season play, or go home once again for the winter, it's going to be one hell of an exciting day at Shea.

Johan Santana took the ball on three days rest and gave the Mets an effort against Florida today that can only be expected by an ace of a staff.

He's an ace, and he delivered.

The Mets have one more day of baseball to go in the regular season, and what they do tomorrow will determine if they tie, win the wild card, or lose and go home.

The Phillies once again are the National League Eastern Division Champions.

They are a very good ballclub and Lidge gives them a huge advantage in their bullpen.

Not one blown save this season.

The Mets 2008 season has all come down to this.

You betcha. I don't have that feeling I had in 2002 in May, but we'll see what happens next week.

The Saturday Game Of The Week was always the real tradition of seeing teams from all over the country and what's more, when NBC did it, it was not the way FOX does it, where EVERY week you always get your local team no matter what.

huh? i'm getting Cubs/Brewers and I'm pretty sure FOX has shown Yankees/Red Sox at least 5 times here in Southern California.

I prefer Miller/morgan over any of the crews on FOX's roster.

I can only speak from my own experience living in both NY and Chicago that Fox will *always* regionalize it for the local market. That may have slackened a little bit in the last year or two, but for a decade it was always that oversaturation of the local teams and you didn't have the true GOTW tradition like NBC did in its glory years.

Well, maybe FOX shows Yankees/Mets and Cubs/White Sox more than Angels/Dodgers.

The true game of the week is ESPN's sunday night game IMO and has been for several years.

Go PHILS!

They won the division today, and will be tough to beat .
Last year they got bounced quickly in the post season.
I don't think that will be the case this year.
The Phillies stumbled for a while and let the Mets get close, but they played much better baseball at crunch time once again when it counted, and they deserve the NL east division crown that they earned today.

I have never warmed up to ESPN's Sunday night game from the year it debuted in 1990 because (1) I don't like Miller-Morgan as an announcing team and (2) the tradition of the 70s and 80s for me was a GOTW on Saturday afternoon with the higher production values NBC would bring to the event. Saturday was the day for a network baseball spotlight where you would also have the occasional GOTW doubleheader thrown in. OTOH, Sunday night as a standalone with no other games on, coming after you'd likely already invested the day in watching your own team just never gelled as a concept with me.

A very exciting ending, with an incredible double-play!

Goodbye Shea.

It's raining here in NYC Metro area, and who knows if the final game will start on time.

SNY is doing special coverage all morning, and right now Gary Cohen is interviewing members of the 1986 World Champion Mets Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, and Darryl Strawberry.

The closing ceremonies on the field will be after the game, so here's hoping for a Mets victory, and one more ballgame.

It's always hard to say goodbye to the baseball season in the early fall.

I hope the Mets can pull out a victory today.

The rain's been ugly out here in NJ. If it stays that way over Shea all day long this is going to make for one nervewracking day, particularly if the game is delayed so long that the Brewer game is mostly done by the time it starts.

Johan Santana earned his dough yesterday as he blanked the Marlins 2-0. This NL Wild Card race certainly is exciting...
