Let me remind you this thread deal with "vintage" (1955-1975) classic series only. Everything that start from the 1980's don't belong to this thread. Keep in mind that, gentlemen. Forgive me, sire.

Not to sound stupid... does the music matter that much on WKRP? weren't the songs just background i.e. what the dj was spinning at the time? I agree the original music MUST be retained in shows like MIAMI VICE. brm

No, some of the songs were incorporated into the stories and referred to in dialogue/jokes. Imagine taking out "Swanee River" from the Honeymooners episode where Norton has to play songs for Ralph to practice for the game show.

VOYAGE season 3 artwork. Stefan, Thanks for putting the Voyage artwork up. Do you think we will ever see any of the following being released on DVD, Bat Masterson, Laramie, Champion The Wonder Horse, or do you have any news of other vintage Western series being readied for release ? Niall.

Stefan, Thanks for putting the Voyage artwork up. Do you think we will ever see any of the following being released on DVD, Bat Masterson, Laramie, Champion The Wonder Horse, or do you have any news of other vintage Western series being readied for release ? Niall. I know these ones: "Rawhide" season 2, vol. 1 "Gunsmoke" season 1 (in July 2007) "The Big Valley" season 2, vol. 1 "Have Gun - Will Travel" season 3 "Wanted: Dead or Alive" season 2 "The Rifleman" (not in season set) There's no sign of a complete season set for "Bonanza" and "The Virginian" yet. Those I wish to get a regular "season set" release: "Stoney Burke" (with Jack Lord, Warren Oates and Bruce Dern) "The Wide Country" (aka "Stoney Burke" rodeo series rival) "Trackdown" (with Robert Culp) "The Westerner" (Sam Peckinpah series)

I'm watching the opening episodes of "Ironside" which came out on DVD yesterday and I am getting the uneasy feeling that something isn't quite right with the episodes. The first two have running times of 49 and 48 minutes which strikes me as way too short for an hour long program from 1967. The norm should still have been something on the order of 50-51 minutes I would think. If there are experts who know better, I know I'd love to hear their assessments. What do you think of the transfer quality (picture and sound)? Do the DVD set include CC or subtitles?

"My Favorite Martian" which IMO is the funniest of all the supernatural FX comedies of the 60s, has had its first two seasons out on DVD for some time, but the third and final season (and only one in color) has been in limbo from Rhino Video for more than a year after we first thought it was coming. An insider/fan who generally knows about these things, indicates Rhino may finally bring the third season out this year, which I would welcome. He also reports on a limited pressing CD of the music for the series to be available next month. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=177816&page=8 I remember one of the final eps of that show had a cast member added (Flip Mark) as a teen-aged nephew of Martin's who also crash landed on earth and couldn't get back to Mars. He only had one retractable antenna because he wasn't an adult martian yet. It was probably a futile last ditch effort to breath life into the series.

I read that he was only in one episode toward the end of Season 3 and then the show was cancelled. Admittedly it was hard to sustain the show much longer, especially since in those days there seasons meant in excess of 100 episodes. That said, I have found in going through Seasons 1 and 2 that the great comic timing of Ray Walston is what helped this show deliver bigger in the laugh quotient than say "Bewitched" which really got tired a lot quicker, yet managed to stay on for eight years in spite of that. I agree. The first season of BEWITCHED was delightful. Montgomery was cute, the cast was good and it was honestly funny. Being a one trick show, though, somewhere in the second season, they started repeating themselves. I remember thinking, "I've already seen this". Still, it's been said BEWITCHED was a show that may have saved ABC back in the early sixties, still the struggling new kid network, even in 1964.... BEWITCHED should have,at minimum, bowed out when Dick York was forced off the show at the end of it's 5th year in 1969.

Speaking of MY FAVORITE MARTIAN, it's a real shame that the one season of MY LIVING DOLL, another Jack Chertok produced sit-com with a sci-fi twist seem to be lost, except for a handful of bootlegs from 16 mm prints. I got a big kick out of that show back in it's lone season, 1964-65, with Julie Newmar as Rhoda, a U.S. Air Force created female robot. I seem to remember mentioning it on a television thread here last fall.
