CHICK COREA & RETURN TO FOREVER ~ Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy (1973)

One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite jazz fusion outfits. These guys are phenomenal!

"Smooth jazzy Japanese fusion, recorded as a soundtrack to the famous children's book of the same name, but with a feel that's a lot more just like some of the Japanese fusion coming out at the time -- tight solos, funky rhythm, and a slick studio sound. Guitarist Masayoshi Takanaka wrote and arranged all of the material, and the record includes additional sax, percussion, and keyboard parts. There's some narration on the record of the story, but most of the album is instrumental, and the vocal parts only go on for a very short time." ~ www.dustygroove.com

"Boom, Bust and the New Deal: Songs of the Depression."

This is an astonishing 4-CD set of American music during the 1930s. It also includes an impressive 160 page hardcover book detailing every selection in the set. Wish I knew how to upload images. The cover art is beautiful, I think. (Likely, if you're interested, you can see this at Amazon if they still stock it.)

Zelig:
You replied while I was editing my post and suggesting folks visit Amazon to take a look at it!

I believe Worlds Records also stocks this at a lower price. It's a wonderful set.

And with that (rather lackluster effort, I must admit), I've gone through my entire Pink Floyd collection chronologically. I began in this thread on April 23rd and have posted every item since (also in the soundtrack section, since they've done some of that).

And you should commemorate the occasion by shaving your eyebrows off!

Duke's piano playing is always interesting...
