Maybe this is just the fanboy in me, but considering they did a minisode with Paul McGan and managed to keep it under wraps completely, is it in any way possible that Eccleston might pop up in The Day Of The Doctor? Even just for a small post regeneration cameo? I mean Moffat loves his surprises and sudden plot twists. I would not be surprised if he has something in store.

The birthplace of the very first Doctor Who story, An Unearthly Child, is to host it’s very first screening of the show as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration! BBC producers are bringing a one night only screening of An Unearthly Child to the King’s Hall in Herne Bay on November 22nd. The event will also feature a celebrity panel, and will also screen a series of messages from former Doctors and companions to mark the occasion, including the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, and the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker. Tom Baker noted that he would “love” to see the first episode in Herne Bay. Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, had this to say about Herne Bay and the occasion: I have spent many a happy hour in Herne Bay but today alas I am summoned by the other doctors to appear at some other minor event organised by the BBC in London to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the programme we all know and love. You are in Herne Bay. Doctor Who started in Herne Bay. What better place to watch An Unearthly Child? Herne Bay is the home town of Anthony Coburn, BBC writer and producer responsible for the first episodes of the long running series. The event will also feature an appearance from classic Who villains the Daleks and the Cybermen. http://www.kasterborous.com/2013/11/doctor-stars-send-messages-herne-bays-unearthly-child-screening/

Two months ago we reported about Doctor Who - The Day of the Doctor: 50th Anniversary Special, which airs around the world a week from tomorrow, on November 23rd...fifty years after "An Unearthly Child" was first broadcast. We passed on about how this title from BBC Home Entertainment will come to DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc in North America on December 10th, just two-and-a-half-weeks after it shows on television! This 77-minute special will even be shown in select theaters, in 3D, on Monday November 25th. And, along those lines, the Blu-ray release will be a combo set with Blu-ray, DVD and 3D Blu-ray all together in one package, for $29.98 SRP..just $5 more than the $24.98 SRP DVD-only version. Fantastic! At the time of that initial report, though, we didn't have a complete list of bonus material which will be included on this title. Now though, the U.S./Canadian distributor, Warner Home Video, has provided a more extensive list of the extras you'll find on board. Here's what they show: Doctor Who Explained - The entire 50-year history in one hilarious 50-minute special! 2x Mini-Episodes Behind the Scenes So what exactly are these 2 "Mini-Episodes" (or "minisodes," as many prefer to term them)? According to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), one of them is a 4-minute piece called "Last Day," a segment which we don't know anything else about. But we suppose it COULD be a sort of bookend to the other one. We're merely speculating, however! The other minisode is undoubtedly the one which the BBC put out on the internet yesterday: "The Night of the Doctor" is the official prequel to the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor. This special minisode is formally described this way: "The 50th Anniversary features Matt Smith, David Tennant and a mysterious incarnation played by John Hurt. Only one Doctor appears in the mini episode, 'The Night of the Doctor.' But which?" Although not confirmed with the BBC, we are certain that this item will be included on the DVDs and Blu-rays, because it's the perfect lead-in to the coming special. See for yourself! Below we have the Amazon.com button link to pre-order Doctor Who - The Day of the Doctor: 50th Anniversary Special on DVD or as a Blu-ray/3D/DVD Combo set. Under that we've embedded the BBC's own YouTube post for "The Night of the Doctor," followed by package art from the two North American versions of The Day of the Doctor. Underneath those images, at the bottom, is the 1-minute-20-second "long version" trailer the BBC has posted on YouTube for The Day of the Doctor...it contains preview scenes which many fans have already called "spoilerish" (although only in a very minor way, if you ask me), so be warned about that if you prefer to go into your viewing of the special with as little information as possible. Whether you watch that or not, it's coming in 8 days. #SaveTheDay http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doctor-The-Day-Of-The-Doctor/19185

Steven Moffat has taken the BBC to task over its decision to take Doctor Who off the air back in 1989. Moffat told the Radio Times: “Ah, 50 years. What can one say about 50 years of Doctor Who? Well, first of all, one can be pedantic. Doctor Who hasn’t been on for 50 years – owing to the outright stupidity and unforgiveable blindness of the BBC (sorry guys, it needs to be said), there was a 16-year gap.” “That gap is important. It confers something very special on this most special of all shows: immortality. Doctor Who, for once and for all, is the show that comes back. Axe it at your peril, someone like me is going to call you a fool, and lots of people like you are going to read along and nod.” “While the BBC folded its arms and shook its head, there were books by the likes of Russell T Davies, Mark Gatiss and Paul Cornell. There were audio adventures, starring all the old Doctors. There was an action-packed American tele-film, and endless rumours of Hollywood movies. Doctor Who Magazine, whose purpose was to document the making of the TV show, carried on perfectly happily without the TV show being made.” Bravo Moffat, bravo. http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/moffat-axe-doctor-who-at-your-peril-55709.htm
