I dreaded the West Ham game more than most recent games and my worries proved correct.
Big Sam's up 'n' under rugby tactics were always gonna test our mettle. That and Andy Carroll's 'have a finger in your eye and my flailing arm up yer nose' brand of attacking and I expected a draw at best.
Credit to the lads for digging in and ploughing on, trying to play the smooth passing game on a dried out pitch and the strong arm tactics. We never would have won that game in previous seasons..
I still dare not give in to the dream just yet, but it's a thrilling 3 way battle and it's just great to be involved again.
Amazingly, I'd also love Everton to grab 4th place, and saying that as a Koppite takes some doing!

Champions League today. smile There's even a team based in England playing!

Borussia Dortmund should be out after today, right? Does anyone fancy their chances at knocking out Real Madrid?

Chelsea and PSG...I realize they're playing this at Stamford Bridge but I predict a 2-1 PSG victory.

I suppose I should really support an English team, but I love it when Chelsea & The Special One lose, so come on PSG!

25min into game and chelsea not playing well enough to win it let alone score 2 or more.

bar a huge slice of spawn, ref assistance or a major second half turnaround, theyre going out.

Good to see Chelsea resort to the school of Sam Allarderci tactics last night, when all else fails stick the big lads up front and lump the ball to them. Brutal to watch at times. Anyway, the way Mourinho was talking before the game I thought he didn't want to win the Champs League?

Madrid just about held on, BVB had more than enough chances to score more. Interesting if Madrid were to draw Chelski.

Kev, there's a Carra documentary that's been on Sky Sports a few times talking about his career and managers he played for, you should get a look at if you haven't already.

P.S. Your predictions are generally useless, Phelpsie. Hope you're not a betting manwink

Note to self: the "big name" teams always beat the not-quite-as-big name teams, especially in the latter rounds of a competition; I think it's all rigged!

to my regret, i watched man utd game in a pub wiv loads of manu muppets, screamin at the t.v as though the players could hear them, and being the usual obnoxious and ignorant blind partisan wnkers. At one point one of them repeated 6 times to his mates and the rest of the pub at the top of his voice "Anyone can win the Premiership, right, as long as it aint the scouse c***s!!!" They were goin potty at united throw-ins in the ott way that women and jonathan Pearce get excited over non moments - kev tg wil kno the type, the ones that leap out of their chairs and scream Go on! to a ball over the top where a defendr is goin to beat the man u player to the ball by a mile and it isnt even a chance., u do kno the type?
they went mental when united scored and i had to sit there in silence when evras shot went in.
It waz so funny the defeaning silence followed the focking ells when bayern went up othr end 23 seconds later and equalised!! i wanted to run around the room pumping fists and laughing my bolox off!
As the goals went in they spent the remaining time moaning about Vidic, moyes, not being able to attract the best players, ferguson escaping when team needed rebuilding, etc etc.

And the Last ten mins? not a peep out of the ones that were left!!

A horrible night in a horrible pub suffering mouthy mancs topped off by a delicious German dessert!

and Barca out too. theres a shock.

I sympathise with you, Bill. My local pub where I frequent is full of Mancs, most of whom have no idea about football and are just trophy hunters (Phelpsie knows what I meanwink). I've learned over the years to pretty much avoid nights when the Mancs are on, as it does my head in. It can be very amusing to see them all leave en masse when they lose howeversmile

Atletico played very well, could have been more. Don't think any team will fancy going there, be interesting if they play Real Madrid.

At long last Manchester United have become interesting, like a soap opera. Will they sack the manager? Will the owners cough up the couple of hundred million it will take to try to rebuild the team? Will it work? Middle of the table next season, one can only hope.

If they don't have any European football next year, that could help them in the Premier League.

You still haven't told us who you support, CinemaScope. You have to declare your colours on this thread, ya knowwink

My money is on Chelski...

OK I'll come clean, I don't really support any one club these days. I was a big Leeds supporter in the seventies - no one ever kicked a ball like Peter Lorimer. I really hate Chelski, even more than I hate Man City. I don't like Liverpool or Newcastle, because I don't like the managers. So what I really enjoy are these teams getting beaten. I do love Match Of The Day, & I hope Arsenal win the FA Cup (poor things). I don't know who I'll be supporting in the World Cup, but it won't be England, same underperforming players year after year, World Cup after World Cup.

Bill, you have my sympathy. It sounds like you were the guest star in your very own Muppets Show! wink
Fortunately, you don't get many Mancs watching the games in Liverpool pubs, so the only thing I have to sometimes put up with are some bitter Blues (Evertonians) who may cheer the opposition goals if they're in the pub.
Like Liverpool this season, Man U will benefit if they're not in Europe next season, so we need them to qualify for the Thursday Night Special (Europa League) so they can still do the travel and play every Sunday! smile

No surprise about United getting trounced, except for the fact that Bayern allowed them to score first again. I am quite happy with Barcelona getting dumped by their La Liga rival though I'm grateful that Barca knocked out Man City. smile

I predict wink Bayern vs. Real and Atletico vs. Chelsea in the semis. The final will be Atletico-Bayern, so Bayern can be the first back-to-back champion since this format started.

Now the only question remaining: how wrong will I be? big grin

I predict those fixtures as well. If only because last night Sky Sports "mistakenly" put up a caption saying the next Champs League fixture is Bayern-v- Real Madridwink

Oh, and with Barca's exit I guess we'll be spared Graham S. Watt's "tika tak" pidgin English routine for another year. big grin

Really? SKY did that? Next thing you'll be telling me is the World Cup in Qatar was one big pay off!

Oh look Phelpsie, it IS Real-v-Bayern in the semi. I'm deeply surprisedwink

(From Football365)

Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers, captain and manager at Anfield, have tried so gamely to keep players and supporters calm, but there is no fooling anyone now - if Liverpool win their 14th home game out of 15 and their tenth consecutive Premier League match, these will be your title favourites across the board. Draw and Liverpool must hope that City slip up; lose and all momentum and belief will be lost in the course of one afternoon.

On the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, this is surely the most important league match that Liverpool will have played since that awful, hideous year. Anfield will be a place of incredible emotion on Sunday, but harness that spirit and they may just get one hand on their first Premier League trophy.

Liverpool may not be everyone's personal preference to win the title, but beat Manchester City and it would be damn difficult to say that they don't deserve it.

I'll always support England, but it'll be easier for me to continue doing so if Roy chooses to take Southampton's up and coming Luke Shaw as cover for Baines than has-been Cashley Hole. There are some that argue in favour of the former Mr Cheryl Cole and there's no doubt he's still a great player. However, England have never won anything with him in the side, and it'll be a statement of intent if Hodgson leaves him out in favour of the younger guy.

Even if said younger guy is rumoured to be Old Trafford bound in the Summer.
