I just found one of the young guest actors on ST TNG episode The High Ground died of an accidental drug overdose in 2000. Christopher Pettiet was only 24. Whenever I read about these it just takes the wind out of me, you assume these young people went on with life.

Similar incidents took out Brad Renfro, River Phoenix and Jonathan Brandis hung himself. Not sure but it seems like these sad ends come to more males than females.

Add Merritt Butrick to the list. I was shocked to learn of his passing.

These examples of directors are older, but they still died too young. I can only imagine what films they could still be making now:

Rainier Werner Fassbinder (36 years old)
Francois Truffaut (52)
Andrei Tarkovsky (54)
Louis Malle (63)

Yeah, I remember that one clearly. I really liked his work (what little I saw).
His appearance on TNG was really gaunt and so it was plain he was quite ill, but when it happened it was no less startling.
I guess the same could be said of anyone mentioned above, really.

Dana Plato died young, as did Buffy from A Family Affair... can't remember her name...many female actresses develop anorexia so even if they don't die young, they don't have very happy lives...

Pete Duel (1940-1971)

31 years old.

Duel made a big impression on me as a kid watching him on numerous television shows and of course, "Alias Smith and Jones". That show was never the same again after his death. One wonders where his career might have gone had he lived. A very talented yet troubled young guy.

John Lennon (1940-1980)

There is no death in music history that is as tragic as his. Lennon's is the only celebrity whose demise shakes me to this day.
