This new thread will be an informative one which will give movie fans who watch cable TV in America a chance to find the showings of seldom seen movies on cable over the years. In advance i will list when stations like TCM, THIS and other cable stations have dug out a obscure film and show it------------------------------------------------ An obscure film in this instance will be a film which has been ignore by the cable stations in America for a long time, this has nothing to do if they are on DVD, YOU TUBE ,or other sources in recent history. All comments are welcome as well as info of course. My main attention here is to give this news so movie fans won't pass by a showing of a film they might have been looking for a long time.May i also say, some people may not have that extra cash to buy a film on DVD all the time if it is on DVD.Not all of us are rich democrats.

"The Famous Ferguson Case" and "Miss Pinkerton" (both starring Joan Blondell) are on TCM's US schedule for tomorrow. Check their website and schedule for broadcast times in your time zone. These rarely show up.

TCM has been showing films starring Leslie Howard during the month of July.

Very obscure BERKELEY SQUARE and OUTWARD BOUND have been shown.

Have also been able to catch up with the Garbo version of THE PAINTED VEIL, which is very different from recent remake.

TCM has been showing a lot of obscure films, and continues to do so, though sometimes at odd, early-morning hours....

TARZAN MOVIE MARATHON IS COMING-on Friday August 3rd TCM will be having an all day Tarzan movie marathon, showing no less then 12 of the films out of that long lasting series which started in the early 30's and lasted into the late 60's.Basically the earlier efforts from the 30's and the 40's will be shown, sorry guys no Bo Derek here.Yes many of the films that will be shown have not been on cable in many a year, some more recent then others , i like when TCM does these marathons, they did one for Sherlock Holmes in December, 2010, it gives a movie fan a chance to tape the whole bunch, be it on video tape or DVD, some people just can't lay out the big bucks to get many of these films on DVD. Yes, you will though find many Tarzan films on YOU TUBE however, here , in order are the films in TCM'S marathon[wish TCM would have at least one marathon every month]---------------------------------TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS-48-TARZAN AND THE HUNTRESS-47-TARZAN AND THE LEOPARD WOMAN-46 TARZAN AND THE AMAZONS-45-TARZAN'S DESERT MYSTERY-43-TARZAN TRIUMPHS-43-TARZAN'S NEW YORK ADVENTURE-42-TARZAN'S SECRET TREASURE-41-TARZAN FINDS A SON-39-[SPECIAL] TARZAN , SILVER SCREEN, KING OF THE JUNGLE-2004-TARZAN THE APE MAN-32-TARZAN AND HIS MATE-34- TARZAN ESCAPES-36---------------ENJOY.

On FLIX this month on cable is BILLY JACK GOES TO WASHINGTON-77- the fourth in the series, the first BORN LOSERS-67-did good in the drive -in curcuit, the second became a sleeper and hit the paydirt, simply called BILLY JACK-71- released a couple of years after it was made, not only did very well in the theatres but got a top 10 hit song out of it ONE TIN SOLDIER BY COVEN, the third was THE TRIAL OF BILLY JACK-75- then this one got made and was pretty much dumped by it's distributer, played in limited markets, never got to New York.It has also been very obscure in TV land, both on free TV and cable for decades now.

Billy Jack Goes To Washington is also one of the most obscure films scored by Elmer Bernstein.

"Tarzan And The Mermaids" was the only film in the series scored by Dimitri Tiomkin.

Catch TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS, if only for a masterful Tiomkin score. Roughly the first 20 minutes are wall-to-wall, gorgeous, vintage Tiomkin, with a few effective setpieces later.

Silva recorded a short suite from this on a Tiomkin compilation, but it really doesn't catch the same verve as the original tracks....

I didn't mind The Born Losers or Billy Jack. The Trial of Billy Jack was horrid even though scored by Bernstein. Billy Jack Goes To Washington has played a few times on my cable in the past few months. I tried to watch it just to hear Bernstein's music. I did hear a few pieces of decent music, but the film was so wretched I fell asleep.

Cable network THIS often will show obscure films in their lineup of films, in August a few of their obscure films are MORE AMERICAN GRAFFITI-79-1979 was not a good year for major film sequels, Beyond the Posiden adventure, airport 79, concorde and others bombed out at the B.O, this sequel to the smash hit American graffiti in 73, also basically came and went, after a network showing this effort has not gotten too much exposure the past 30 years in syndication or on cable.----------------------------THE SEAGULL-68- Is a basically obscure film with Vanassa Redgrave based on Chekhov, film has barely ever been shown on free TV or cable or network TV.--------OUT OF IT-69- is a small obscure film starring Jon Vought, the year he hit the paydirt with Midnight cowboy-69-barely any TV exposure for over four decades.Although THIS, style is alot different then TCM they do dig out very hard to find films in their package.

Movieplex on Comcast On Demand is running the hard to see 102 min., uncut version of the Monte Hellman spaghetti western, China 9, Liberty 37, which stars Warren Oates, Jenny Agutter, Fabio Testi, and introducing Sam Peckinpah. There are many public domain DVD copies floating around of the 92 min. version that cuts out Agutter's nude scenes and the violence. Only downside is the presentation is full-frame.

On TCM this Saturday is the rare RETURN OF PETER GRIMM-1935-For genre fans it has been a challenge to find every genre film they can find and hopefully see, when it comes to SOUND films , there are not many films that are really lost in the Horror SCIFI genre, with silent films it is another story, but with sound feature lenght genre films, the few that are still under suspicion that they maybe lost are rare, of that bunch 90% are of the early to mid 30's, this film with Lionel Barrymore , once was thought to be lost, interesting little film and barely ever on TV.

On THIS these days is MANCHU EAGLE MURDER CAPER-75-A film that got very limited release and was sought of what one would call a tax write off film, as obscure as it was in it's theatrical release is as obscure it has been for the past 37 years on TV, but good old THIS has dug it out [i salute THIS AND TCM] if you like cheesy comic crime capers with one of the best gunfight scenes in history check it out.

yes i remember seeing one of those public domain copies of that film a few years back, a good music score for that movie.

Pino Donaggio has scored a bunch of titles that could be considered obscure (Tourist Trap, Hercules, Deja Vu, The Barbarians, Going Bananas, A Fine Romance, Never Talk To Strangers, etc.).

I'd love to see that one again. Not a great flick by any measure, but an amusing romp to be sure.
