"Universal has announced a new Universal Vault Series of DVD-on-Demand titles that you can now purchase via Amazon.com, much like Warner's Archive program. The first batch of titles available includes Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995), A Good Man in Africa (1994), A Bronx Tale (1993), Pure Luck (1991), Shout (1991), Stick (1985), The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981), Resurrection (1980), Blue Collar (1978), The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977), Shoot Out (1971), Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here (1970), Gambit (1966), The Brass Bottle (1964), Kitten with a Whip (1964), The Chalk Garden (1964), The List of Adrian Messenger (1963), 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962), The Perfect Furlough (1958), The Black Shield of Falworth (1954), Dragnet (1954), House of Seven Gables (1940), Spawn of the North (1938), Death Takes a Holiday (1934) and Ruggles of Red Gap (1933). "

NOTE: "The List of Adrian Messenger" for those of you curious to hear this great Goldsmith score. Of course you'd have to buy the DVD in order to hear it..

SPAWN OF THE NORTH - Excellent arctic adventure with Raft & Barrymore and great Tiomkin score!

DRAGNET - the 1954 big screen version of the radio & tv icon. With all the great players - Ben Alexander, Virginia Gregg, Stacy Harris, Vic Perrin, Harry Bartell and more. And watch for Webb and Alexander's wonderful elevator pantomime!!!

HOUSE OF SEVEN GABLES - now-obscure Universal gothic drama with excellent Frank Skinner score.

RUGGLES OF RED GAP - Laughton recites Lincoln

And, yes, the wonderful MESS OF ADRIAN LISTINGER. I mean LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER. Sorry about that chief.

Do these come with ad art and regular packaging?

I think the packaging will be something like Warner's Archive series; just the basics. You can do a search on Amazon for specific titles to look at them, but unfortunately they don't have these titles grouped together on a main page, which I think would be helpful.

I've got to have KITTEN WITH A WHIP. There are some other ripe peaches to pluck there, too.

There's an example of the packaging. Warner uses slimline cases. Maybe Universal will do the same.

NICE. Personally, I PREFER those slimline cases. They make way more sense in terms of storage, in terms of about everything.

Happily both The List Of Adrian Messenger & Gambit are available in the UK on DVD (not DVD-R!).

"Death Takes A Holiday" was also previously available as part of a "Meet Joe Black" special edition...

Cool, I'm going to pick up The Chalk Garden, Stick, and 40 Pounds Of Trouble. Thanks for the heads up.

I've wanted Stick for some time now.

For my money, "Resurrection" is the best title in the batch. It features what is for me Maurice Jarre's finest score.

It's a good movie, too, rather profound in a way. Ellen Burstyn talked fondly of it in her autobio, and talked about the studio letting it die with little promotion.

Yeah. It's not the greatest film you will ever see, but dang has it got a certain something that keeps me coming back. Burt Reynolds pulls out a heck of a performance in it as does everyone else. Ultimately, it's a strange movie, but an entertaining one to be sure.

The dialogue is a hoot.

I just watched this last night. The transfer is ok and it's anamorphic widescreen. No menus, though.

I had forgotten that Burt Reynolds had a directing credit on this movie. It's not the greatest movie ever made but it does have some fun stuff in it. The end of the film is pretty awful, though, right down to the horrendous song and it's not very satisfying.

Sharky's Machine is a more entertaining film. I'd love to see that come out on Blu Ray with a nice transfer or at least get reissued with a good anamorphic widescreen transfer on DVD.

Warner Bros don't use slimline cases for their archive series.

Will these be available on Netflix? I'd love to watch Adrian Messenger for the Goldsmith score.
