Gandalf is still going strong? I have never really heard much of his stuff, fearing it might be in the Andreas Vollenweider category of fluffy new age.
This is the symphony that contains a scherzo which is very similar to Franz Waxman's police-chase music in A PLACE IN THE SUN. One wonders indeed if Waxman knew this piece before composing his score.
Bought a handful of George Harrison songs off iTunes yesterday. Had watched Time Bandits the other night (for the first time in over twenty years!) and rediscovered his closing credits song "Dream Away," which I loved as a kid but had since completely forgotten about. Found it, and also ended up with several others, too:

With some exceptions, I'm not really familiar with a lot of the solo stuff from The Beatles, but may start checking out more of it.
Just got a bunch of Darren Hayes albums to fill in the gaps in my collection of his stuff, including Savage Garden recordings -- in my book he's a deliriously gifted pop writer and singer -- perhaps the best of his generation.
You know, as much as I enjoyed Savage Garden (which was too short-lived), I've still yet to get around to hearing any of Hayes' solo work. I really need to check it out, though, because I really loved SG's first album and still listen to it regularly, and even though I was kind of disappointed with their second album, there's some stuff on it that I do enjoy, too. "Crash and Burn" is terrific and probably the best song SG did.

This is horrible! A recording of well known American Jazz tunes performed by "Charlie And His Orchestra" during the late 30's/early 40's. The lyrics of the songs are altered and fitted with brutal anti-semitic messages.
Makin' Whoopie" is sung by a German doing his best Eddie Cantor impersonation. Pure propaganda in an attempt to manipulate and confuse the public.
Reminds me in some ways of the tactics so often used by the likes of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
Aside from that I've picked by some pretty good non-film score discs over the past couple of months. Ran Blake, Giorgio Gaslini and some other stuff.
