These days a man in shorts means this:

Once upon the 70's, this was what shorts meant.

There's not much of a comparison, is there?

*Despairing sigh*

that was funny, dave you need to come on over to this side of the country, you get some NICE country/farmer boys and men here. Also, spring means the Ball State boys come out and they always wear shorts!!

Whew! I was afraid this thread would be about something unseemly...like regrets for having switched to thongs.

And I thought he was lamenting the absence of Vitaphone short films...frown

Huge, baggy, past-the-knees shorts, Miss Daisy?

or slightly-snug, thigh-or-higher, showing-enough-leg-to-make-the-steam-rise-in-my t-shirt shorts?

One felt sure this would be a thread devoted to Joe McDoakes, the Falcon, or various travelogues.

I don't miss shorts. Wear 'em every day under my slacks. Even when I'm wearing shorts. Kidding, I believe I get the gist of the orginal poster's intent

I regret the longer "shorts", too. Those always make me think of English colonial governors having a tea party with their native servants. Complete with those helmet-like hats and knee-length socks. Even Mr. Universum looks like a stork in those.

P.S. (update): Unfortunately that combo is still worn.

Some people need to know when to call it quits. Ohhhhh.

Oh, dear me, no, Ron.

Thongs are great for 3 positions: standing up, laying down and peeling off the moment you have his attention.

They are HELL to sit in and I have to wonder about people who can manage it all-freaking day.

Even the 60's had better shorts. And in sports!

However, some people can't wear those short ...uhm, shorts in any case. Personally, I have too thin and long legs to wear them. I need the knee-length kind in order to "cover it up". I think the short version is best suited for men of a certain build.

I find that men who have shortcomings in the leg-department often have other good features.

You, for instance, Thor, have really good skin, if the picture you posted a bit ago is any indication. It looks quite gleaming and flawless, so clean you could serve food on it.

Now that I mention it, do you ever...

...serve food on it?

:0)

Only if I'm out of plates! smile

Seriously, I have indeed always had a very "clean" skin, even through my adolescent years. I guess that's a blessing, at least. Thanks for noticing!

the mentioning of short shorts and basketball immediately conjured up a vision of Larry Bird, who I believe led the league in tightest, shortest shorts.

These are matters that man and science pay far, FAR too little attention to and I just don't think that's right.

Thank you, Cryo, for pointing out this matter. Do you have any other theories or statistics in this area that would lead us to further inquiry?

(Preferably with pictures.)
