Mmmmmmm, I love pizza. Probably my favorite food ever! Almost every Friday is Pizza Night in this household. Lately, the only pizza we've been eating is Mountain Mike's. There's a pizza place here in town, but it's not very good so we usually make the 15-20 minute drive to the next town to get Mt. Mike's. I also like Round Table, but rarely get to eat there anymore since the closest one is a little further away. But for me, the greatest pizza ever still belongs to D.J.'s Pizza, which was a little place in my hometown, but they closed sometime in the late-80s. But man, they had the greatest pizza ever. When we make it at home, we always use the Mama Mary pizza crust. I think it's much better than the more popular Boboli. As for what kind I like, I like the trusty ol' cheese-and-pepperoni, and we always order with light sauce. Sometimes they put too much on, and it ruins the taste. And occasionally I sprinkle on some parmesan cheese, but not as often as I did when I was little.

Here in Minneapolis, we've got the best pizza joint on the planet, Punch Neapolitan Pizza. Cooked in an 800 degree wood fueled brick oven for 90 seconds, it comes out with a nice, slightly burnt crust, sizzlin' and delish! My favorite combination: ham, artichoke hearts, capers and anchovies! A little taste of bliss, I tells you!

When I lived in L.A. many years ago, there was a great place in the valley called Joe Peeps. Best pepperoni pizza ever. I wish I could have one now...

I like Papa John's too, though many others I know don't. For non-chain pizzas, there are a couple places here in Tally I really like, one called Momo's and the other called Decent Pizza. They're extremely similar (my understanding is they used to be different locations of the same business, and one was sold to new ownership, and got its name changed while everything else stayed the same). They're nothing like Papa John's or other chains, but I can appreciate a variety of approaches to pizza. My favorite toppings (on anyone's pizza) are mushroom, jalapeño and pineapple; I get these on any pizza I order for myself. I like other stuff too, including lots of meat, though for whatever reason if pizza has upwards of 3 or 4 toppings I do prefer that at least half be non-meat. I love all kinds of meat on pizza, but if they're there in force I want an equal or greater number of other things, too. Many years ago a place I used to work at opened a pizzeria on the side, and its signature topping was alligator (!), which I found actually quite good, provided it was eaten when it first came out of the oven. Unlike most pizza, which is great even if reheated a day or two later, alligator pizza seemed to lose its appeal for me if it wasn't eaten fresh out of the oven. I've always declared that if I were to build my future home, I will include a pizza oven in bricks! That's on my wishlist for my dream house, too.
