TUESDAY, JUNE 10
AVATAR---James Cameron confirmed that Sigourney Weaver is returning as a different character for the three sequels, "Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ALIENS. We're good friends who've always worked well together, so it just feels right that she's coming back for the AVATAR sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films." Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang and Zoe Saldana are also returning.
THE GOONIES---Sean Astin said he will return for the sequel, "My first thought when Dick [Richard Donner] said he was doing that was like, ‘Alright, maybe this time it's true!' I hope it's true. I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don't know if I'd be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I'm sure there would be some way to work it out."
Astin added that Corey Feldman also will return, "We talk a lot. Corey and I are buddies. Oh, he's fired up. He's ready to go."
Astin said the sequel might focus on the children of the kids from the original movie, "I think that's what they want to do. I think they want to focus primarily on the kids. I think the audience may be split on that, so they're trying to figure it out."
RED SPARROW---movie underway based on the novel about a female Russian intelligence agent who is assigned to seduce a young CIA agent and then joins him in finding a high-level Russian mole in Washington, DC. David Fincher is in talks to direct and Rooney Mara is in talks to star. Eric Warren Singer (AMERICAN HUSTLE) is in negotiations to write the script.
ALL THE WAY---Steven Spielberg miniseries underway based on the Broadway play about President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Spielberg wants Tony-winning Bryan Cranston to reprise his role as LBJ for the miniseries.
HAIL CAESAR---George Clooney and Josh Brolin will star in this comedy movie from the Coen Brothers about a 1950s Hollywood fixer.
GHOSTBUSTERS 3---Sigourney Weaver said her character's son, Oscar, from GHOSTBUSTERS 2, will be a Ghostbuster in the latest sequel.
US & THEM---Fox cancelled the sitcom starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel before it premiered. It was a remake of the British sitcom GAVIN & STACY.
GRIMSBY---spy spoof movie underway in which a British intelligence agent goes on the run with his idiot football fan brother. Mark Strong, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ian McShane star.
