In my L.A. days I was lucky to have met many people in all aspects of Film and TV/ Entertainment business.
Some of the most memorable being:
Composers Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Horner, Georges Delerue, directors Steven Spielberg, Ed Zwick, Joe Dante, Mark Rydell, David Seltzer, Franklin Schaffner, David Anspaugh, Christopher Guest, Ridley Scott, Emilio Estevez, Michael Landon, Robby Benson, Cinematographers Allen Daviau, Januz Kaminski, Victor J. Kemper, James Crabe and actors John Lithgow, David Suchet, Melinda Dillon, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Penn, John Shea, Martin Short, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Jacqueline Bisset, Sally Field, Jonathan Harris, Sammy Davis Jr. and many others.
I would still someday love to meet my all-time favorite actor Al Pacino. I worked as an extra on HEAT and was close to him but never got to speak with him. Would like to meet Francis Ford Coppola.
Would have loved to have met the late John Denver, Miklos Rozsa, Sydney Pollack, Sidney Lumet, Rod Serling.
Who have you been lucky to meet and who would you still like to meet?
These can be people you admire and appreciate their work. The fame is probably just what brought them to our attention.

I wouldn't say there are people who are famous that I'd like to meet.
A long time ago, I used to work part time at the London department store where my father also worked. I'd travel to London by train to work at the store on thursday evenings and on saturdays. I was still in school at the time. I used to be able to run from Oxford Street to Charing Cross Station in 10 minutes flat wearing a suit and raincoat to try and catch, if possible, the next train home following my stint at work.
My father met many people in his job, some of whom were names. You could say it was an occupational hazard. In the course of his work, he became an acquaintance of Barry Morse. They were on friendly terms, though not familiar as friends. Mr Morse was a customer with whom my father had obviously made an impression. One day, when I was working at the London store, my father came down the escalator from the department where he worked to the department where I was working and by his side was Barry Morse. He was trim and a little lanky from being a fitness enthusiast. He was wearing sportswear and was obviously taking a run around the block, but had popped in for a friendly visit on his way. My dad had brought Mr Morse specially to say 'hello.' We exchanged pleasantries, shook hands and talked briefly.
A while later, my father brought something home from work that Barry Morse had given him to give to me. It was a folder, complete with external identification, containing the materials for learning his role as professor Victor Bergman in Space 1999. All the other actors on the series were probably issued with the same. I also had a signed photograph. It could have been due to our conversation, because Space 1999 was a series for which he was most recognisably known at that time and one of the few things I could talk about with him on anything like a one to one level. I can't remember what we talked about exactly because I'd been taken completely by surprise by my father, who does like to spring this sort of thing unannounced and it was also a long, long time ago. To this day, I have no idea why Mr Morse gave me what must have been quite personal property. But he did. Maybe he had copies to give away to whomsever he felt so inclined, though I rather doubt it. These materials have, most regrettably, long since been lost. I do remember a 2 or 3-view diagram of the communication devices the alphans used in the series as being part of the list of items to be familiarised. It was a nicely set out package consisting of several leaflets outlining everthing about moonbase Alpha you ever needed to know as an overview. At the end of the day all I can say is he was a very generous, charming and kind man.
Barry and Sydney Morse were a wonderful couple who cared for each other and others deeply. As a family, we would receive the newsletters they circulated to keep people on their contact list informed of things that were happening within their orbit. It was such a friendly sense of community they had. Then, one day, the mailings stopped. First Sydney, then Barry passed away. But I'll always remember him with fondness even though I never really knew him.

I've gone to several conventions over the last twelve years, so I've met a number of people. Some of them might not have been "famous," but were otherwise popular within their genres and such. Some that immediately come to mind are Bruce Campbell, Danielle Harris, Robert Picardo, Marc Singer, Heather Langenkamp, Dick Warlock (long-time Kurt Russell stunt double), Ernie Hudson and Adrienne Barbeau. Also met John Carpenter, effects wizard Stan Winston and, before he was even well-known in the US, Jason Statham. He was really awesome.
As for those I'd like to meet, that'd be a huge list, but would include Kurt Russell, Harrison Ford, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Steven Spielberg and Joe Dante.
I haven't really had many bad experiences meeting anyone famous, but the rudest were Tony Todd and (especially) Val Kilmer, who was a real douchebag.

I met and interviewed a lot of people when I was writing for a campus and later a city newspaper, and others over the years at various film events. I joke that I've actually met both Richard Nixon (Frank Langella) and Deep Throat (Hal Holbrook), as well as Patton (George C. Scott), Mark Twain (Holbrook again), Oscar Wilde (Vincent Price) and even Jesus (Ted Neeley). Some others that come to mind: Leslie Nielsen (great fun). John Houseman (my all-time favorite interview), Edward Albee (toughest interview I ever did), Agnes Varda, Tiny Tim (at a screening of Blade Runner in Des Moines, Iowa!), Jerry Goldsmith (in Springfield, Missouri), Joseph LoDuca, Leonard Slatkin, Rupert Holmes, David Amram, Harry Rabinowitz, The Roches, Richard Thompson, Arlo Guthrie, Dorothy McGuire, Harold Gould, Volker Schlondorff, Martin Donovan, Tina Turner, Loudon Wainwright III, Alan Rudolph, Michael Murphy, Kathryn Altman (Robert's widow). In the first dream I had years ago he walked up to me in a cafe and said"Hello, I'm Peter O'Toole" and I responded, "That seems rather redundant." I like to think he would have found that amusing.
Other I would like to have met include Robert Altman, Harry Nilsson and Ray Bradbury.

I've never quite got the whole 'meet famous people' thing.
It's pretty awkward, at best. They don't know you from Adam, you don't know them much either (even if you proclaim to love their talent).
Meeting them at a social event would be a bit less awkward, I suppose, as there is time to relax and chat about normal stuff, as opposed to any nervous gushing one might feel compelled to do.
I remember bumping into Basil Poledouris and some associates of his, outside the RAH before a John Barry concert and it was a nice chat, everyone being just eager John Barry fans, excited about seeing him in concert, when a mate who was with us pulled out a camera, completely ruining what had been a nice relaxed chatty encounter.
My biggest hero is John Williams, but when he has been signing autographs inside the many venues I've seen him at, I've never been inclined to join the throng, when the pub is waiting for me down the road
