I'm surprised no one mention this yet. Jim Henson's son died of a heart attack at age 48. How sad considering his Dad died so young too. There's a new Muppet Movie coming out this spring or summer.

Yeah, thought that was sad too, his dad died at like 54 I think I read.

Jim's death was entirely preventable too, as he refused to seek medical help because he was a christian scientist.

Yup, the Muppets are outliving them both.

Must we remind you:

2) No political or religious discussion. There are countless places online to discuss religion and politics but only a few to discuss film music. Even in the non-film music discussion side of our board, we do not allow religious or political talk. We have found that such threads always (regardless of which “side” you are on) degenerate into fights and acrimony. Obviously there are topics that border on these areas; please use your judgment. If you want to discuss your favorite scores to religious films, that’s fine, just don’t use it to sermonize—and if somebody else does so, report it to us, and don’t take the bait. (These are sensitive topics; please respect that other people may not only have different views, but different sensibilities towards discussing them.)

Now I recall why I have to login, so I make sure my block list is working to block Deputy Ron Hardcastle.

OMG you have become the biggest windbag thread patrolling whiner I have ever seen on this site. For gods sake get another hobby - geez

My comment was observational and informational about Jim Henson. I never commented about the validity or lack of validity of anyone's faith. I will say whatever the heck I want to say.

Re: "Jim's death was entirely preventable"

I doubt that Christian Scientists would agree.

My quote of the Community Rule stands.

Not to be too disagreeable Ron, but Ado's comment strikes me as a simple statement of fact and not a religious discourse by any but the furthest stretch. I'm not on anybody's side, and I support the rules, but fairness is or should be in the rules as well.

When he wrote that Jim's death was preventable but that it wasn't prevented because he was a Christian Scientist, I felt that that crossed the line ... for at least Christian Scientists.

The other day I wrote something about human rights and someone quite active here chastised me for it and quoted the rule I quoted above. There sometimes seems to be a double standard here.

The deal is I am a marked man with Ron, he does not like much of what I say, he knows I disagree with him on a wide variety of areas. So now he plays Deputy Fife with me.

I mean, is this board really going the direction of totally sanitized and politically correct? I mean the most remote mention of a religious term and POUNCE.

Sounds like you were treated a bit unfairly yourself, on that occasion. But you don't strike me as the "wagging finger" Critical Parent rule-quoter type, so I was surprised to read that from you (with a "must we remind you" preceding, no less).

I cannot stand that when people refer to themselves in the plural - ie "we".

I think if anything the board, at least on the non-filmscore side, should err on the side of saying whatever you think short of outright racism or something like that.

Maybe some people need to watch Fahrenheit 451 again?

it seems to me this whole thing has been taken out of context. Right or wrong[opinion] it was just stated that this was a belief that some Christian scientists have and in this case it lead to MR Henson's death. No need to assume the statement was meant to be an attack against anyboby. Just a simple FACT.it is like saying the economy in one country right now is better then another. That does not mean one is attacking the country with the worst economy. It is just a FACT, AND THERE IS NO MORALITY IN A FACT.

Probably not true.

He had apparently been feeling pretty terrible for some days.
He was spitting up blood and telling his ex wife that he still did not want to go to the hospital.
Strep infection is entirely treatable, not when you wait that long to treat it. Had he gone to the hospital earlier, in all likelihood he would still be alive today.

There's lots of reasons guys don't go to the hospital.

Yeah, the point is that if you are spitting up blood and tell your family that you are not going to the hospital you are an idiot.

I mean what are we getting at here, saying Jim Henson made the right decision to avoid medical treatment and die at a young 53? That is so dumb. Creative geniuses are sometimes really stupid with practical decisions about how to live life.

I simply felt that Ado's comment of "Jim's death was entirely preventable too, as he refused to seek medical help because he was a christian scientist" (my emphasis) was bringing religion into the discussion.

As for Ado's "The deal is I am a marked man with Ron, he does not like much of what I say, he knows I disagree with him on a wide variety of areas. So now he plays Deputy Fife with me." That "wide variety of areas" consists of a grand total of 2: My discussion about Boyzone and the discussion about an opera version of "Brokeback Mountain," both of which Ado jumped in with negative, even dismissive, comments that led to some heated discussion from me and others.

Okay, boys! Whip 'em out and measure 'em and let us all know when you're through.

This place is becoming a loony bin.

This reminds me of the sad tragedy of ANDY WARHOL, who I saw a few times in my life. Although it was not a actual belief, he had a terrible fear of hospitals, it lead to his death at a early age. That was truly preventable.. My theory is if you have to go to the hospital go to the hospital, but if is possible try not to stay there too long. Because I do believe you can sometimes get worse there.
