Maybe yes , maybe no, I don't have the facts on exactly how many people die in car crashes, plane crashes, bus crashes etc etc when it comes to the general public as opposed to celebrities of the sought. But today I was thinking while listening to music while on a slot machine at a casino when out of ten songs, they played a Jim Croce number , a Harry Chapin number, A Rick Nelson number and a John Denver number. It seems like for celebrities over the years being in transport can be very dangerous. Now Paul Walker, any comments on this issue?

I know one could sadly write a book on celebrities dying in transport and it wouldn't be that small.

C'mon dan! There was already a thread started the day before about Walker's fiery death in the Porsche, and someone had added to it about 22 minutes before you started yours, so it would have been up there near the top and very easy to see. Did you reallllllllllllllly have to start another?

I saw a thread but I didn't read deeply into was it talking about all the other stars who died in transport and is there a higher ratio with celebrities? Anyway on that topic could it be that celebrities travel more then the average public is why it seems there are lot of these accidents with them.

Whew!!! I want to give blowups of that to all my students to see what they can do with it. English as a second language? Don't know, since you tell us nothing about yourself in your profile here, not even if you are male or female, although you DO use the word "man" in your handle. But what's a handle? You could be Danielle for all WE know. But we DO know that you have almost 44 pages (times 100) of topics you've posted to, some more than 250 times on a single topic, and you still don't provide even one word about yourself. Would the REAL dan the man please step up to tell us a few words about HIMself (or herself)?

Bravo. But if one is trying to break records with the most posts to this site (as I wrote, nearly 44 pages times 100 of topics alone), then it probably doesn't even matter whether it's in good taste or bad. So much of some of these postings is just auto pilot drivel, doncha know?

Unless someone prints out Dan's posts and force-feeds you with them I don't understand your problem. He puts too much in his posts, but not enough in his profile? I don't know anything about Dan, but I know the date you retired, how many letters you had published in the LA Times (was that a record?  ) and that you recently visited your parents. I called in on my old mum for a cuppa and a chat on the way home after work, if it's of interest to anyone .
There's actually an interesting discussion to be had here - about ten people each day die on British roads but I can't recall the last famous one. Footballers regularly wrap their Lambos around Manchester's lamp posts with little apparent injury. Perhaps a case of "where there's no sense there's no feeling"! Are wealthy people proportionately more susceptible to calamity in their powerful motors and their helicopters or private aircraft than the ordinary bloke who can't afford to maintain his ten-year old Corsa with bald tyres? If so, would it put you off buying lottery tickets or entering The X Factor? Someone on the board might actually know this stuff but be too intimidated to mention it.
So it's in the immediate aftermath of a famous person coming to grief? I think that makes it topical, not in poor taste.
Dan - variety is the spice of life. Carry on, pal, if you choose.

The point I was trying to make was that since someone had started a thread about actor Paul Walker's death via the fiery crash of the sports car he was riding in the day before (and which had moved to the top less than an hour earlier), it seemed to me that dan could have incorporated the question he wanted to ask on THAT thread, rather than starting yet another that had so little to do with movie music, the main reason why most of us come here. And if I can one day prod him into telling us a few specific things about the composers and soundtracks he loves, all the better, And yes, TG, I let it all hang out, even some of the boring shit that would rate as "too much information!" And I love that you list Shostakovich first in some of your favorite composers. His 5th symphony was one of the first I discovered in my late teens and changed my life.

TO MR GREG- I never stated that there were more death by celebrities in transport then the general population. I just said that it does seem to be a high proportion of music stars who say have hit the top 40 over the years or movie stars and the like who have experience these tragic events. I don't have the facts , but I imagine it would be plausible if one wanted to spend some time to see if it is true or not. I don't understand where is the bad taste to get some info on this issue. People are very sensitive around here. it seems whatever some people say they have to hit back on them.

I get why people put long, detailed entries for their profile. But I also get why people put nothing for their profile (being one of them LOL).
I speak only for myself, but I feel (arrogantly, probably) that my credibility should come from what I say and how I say it--rather than who I am in my profile. For the time being, anyway. Apart from the cyber-stalking aspect I mentioned in another thread, sure, I could put ALL my info down but does "who" I am really matter in regards to "what" I say? I'm not sure, but I don't think so.
There have been times that I may have let TMI leak into some of my posts (to my later slight discomfort). But those are cases where I'm riding the wave of the moment, and that's a little different than having all my personal "stuff" in one permanent spot.
Anyway, I guess it's just one of those "comfort-level" choices.

Octoberman: I'm honestly NOT asking for personal information that might be useful to stalkers, unless you feel that including whether one is male or female is too personal. I'm talking about supplying one's favorite composers and soundtracks and perhaps a smattering of likes (such as good wine or the movies of certain directors or stars), but nothing that would bring you to the attention of your stalker. In the case of dan, one could say that those questions can be answered by reading his posts, but who wants to wade through 40,000 threads with multiple posts on many of them to try to get some sense of what he admires when just a few lines in his (now blank) profile could answer those questions.

Timmer: Just read your profile, and realize that this is such a cliché, but … THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT! Loved what you wrote about your weight training. Even into my 60s, I was working out religiously every other day -- Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and then BACK to Monday, Wednesday, Friday, often unwilling to give myself 2 days off in a row. I was 5 ft 4 1/2 (down from 5 ft 5 in my youth), weighed 130 lbs, very trim and compact, and yet I would bench press 200 lbs … BIG mistake!!! 6 years ago I woke up to find severe pain in my shoulder, which led to several trips to my physicians, but little solution to the problem, and I've not been back to a gym in those 6 years. What was I thinking??? So I tell people as they approach their, ahem, "golden" years to NOT push themselves to the breaking point -- lower the weight but maybe increase the reps. Thanks for writing!
And I realize that this will elicit some knowing smirks, but I'm now going to paste some of the above into my profile!
