Listening to BODY HEAT now...alll of my favorite Barryisms rolled into one kick-ass score, and now sounding like a million bucks. Thanks again to the omniscient Lukas Kendall, who sees all and knows all and makes it happen. This is why I love film music!
Dana Wilcox, Jerry Horne - lucky you! Seems that among all who ordered this set on this week, I will be the last who will listen it. Of course I don't count those, who said 'pass, I'll get this latter'. I will wait for 3-4 days till Intrada ships this and 3-4 weeks till it arrive to me With such great CD I really angry 'cause scientists still don't invent simple machine for teleportation...
My discs are winging there way across the Atlantic but just listening to the samples, those promos of the main theme on disc 2 sound fascinating. Played on flute, piano etc at various speeds. Great stuff.
I wouldn't put this on the list of my favorite Dan Wallin recordings. It sounds better than Moonraker but not as good as The Black Hole. I realize that's probably not too helpful of a comparison since those are pretty much on opposite extremes of the sound quality spectrum.
The music is great. The recording, while not spectacular, never detracts from that.
It would be wonderful if you could chime in with an actual comment rather than emoticons. If you haven't heard the CD yet, why not wait until you have it and have given it a listen to do any further posts in this thread?
I know some people just how great a score is by how 'big' it sounds.
Me, I judge a score on how perfectly it nails the atmosphere of the film — and this score nails the film as good as a film ever got nailed by a score.
(And that's not meant to be Body Heat-esque innuendo!)
On top of that, it's a highly seductive listening experience apart from the film.
That makes it a bloody great score in my book.
Cheers
Couldn't have said it better myself. As much as I enjoy the Bond scores, BODY HEAT and DANCES WITH WOLVES are Barry's masterpieces IMO. Both films, utterly "nailed!"
