I can kind of see why this was tossed...it's hardly "scary" or even suspenseful for a mainstream serial killer thriller. It's still an interesting, atmospheric listen, though (especially the solo cello passages). Always fascinating to listen to rejected scores.
Would you be open to a trade of my MINT German edition for your (I'm quite certain) MINT French edition would you Mr. Nyborg?
I'm guessing it's not just Sean Connery's face you don't like, what's the deal with the German release's running time?
I don't believe the German release is actually longer. I just prefer the alternate artwork on the French cover - plus, Le Nom de la Rose rolls off my tongue with far more ease than DER NAME DER ROSE, me being French Canadian and all.
One of the first Young scores I ever purchased, and it's nice to re-visit it with extra music.
THE first Goldsmith score I ever owned back in early '93. Listening to it now, it's definitely a product of Goldsmith's "Keyboard Lullaby" period, but it's still a million times better than anything being written for films today.

I'm not attached to the cover or pronunciation of my copy, but might postage be a concern? - I'm in Ireland.
