Received mine and have played only the Newman section so far.
Exceptionally good sound, regardless of the vintage. Makes the wonderful music all the more enjoyable.

My copy didn't come today ...... frown

Preston, see what you can do ...... cool

Cody here. Hang in there, PFK. I don't know where you are, but I'm in California and that helps. I used to order at SAE, but that would mean another 2 weeks wait. I wisened up.

It didn't come today either! mad

I only live 2,500 miles east of Los Angeles! I usually get the CDs in 2 business days.

Cody, I always buy direct from Bruce, right from the start of Kritzerland. That way Bruce receives the full sale price of $20. Nothing wrong with buying his CDs from other stores, but I want to help Bruce best I can. I urge others to buy right from Kritzerland directly.

I think the CDs are taking longer to get to the East Coast for weather reasons.

Listened to the whole disc. As I said earlier, the Newman is terrific, but I'm also mightily impressed with the Mockridge score. Superb.
Anyone hesitating over getting this should hesitate no longer. You'll be rewarded with sumptuous Newman and Mockridge scores, both in remarkably fine sound.

Question. Is the title for track 12 correct?
It's listed as: "Love's Dream After the Ball" which sounds a bit odd.
Should it be two titles, as in: Love's Dream / After the Ball

Believe me, I thoroughly love the score to O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE so don't take this as a complaint in any way. If I remember correctly the first story in the film is"The Cop and the Anthem" with Charles Laughton not "The Last Leaf". The sequencing on the disc has "The Last Leaf" coming first. Remember I am only asking for a comment. This is NOT a complaint. I am so glad to have this in my collection.

Sequencing is everything in terms of Kritzerland releases. All about what presents best, and we all felt that leading with the score for which there was the most music was the way to go - and it's also the score that has the most classic Newman music. That simple.

Thanks for the explanation, Bruce. As I said earlier I have no complaints. It plays beautifully. Case closed.

I love questions, and knew you weren't complaining. Always feel free to ask - I love putting together CDs, although the sequencing for this one was pretty much Mike Matessino all the way.

Re, the repeated cry of: "Preston -- see what you can do."

Sorry, guys. Er, uh -- Bruce -- please see what you can do. I haven't received my cop(ies) yet, either, and I live right over the hill from Kritzerland.

smile

That's the title - Love's Dream After the Ball

I just watched O. Henry's "The Clarion Call" on Youtube.
The scene with "Love's Dream After the Ball" is actually the opposite of a love scene – it's some low level background source accompanying a sneering villain, Richard Widmark, sitting at an eatery table and telling cop Dale Robertson "I'm sick of seeing your face, Barney".

Anyway, if others are unfamiliar with the piece and make the same mistake as me (in assuming it's a Newman composition), the music is by the Hungarian composer Alfons Czibulka (1842-1894) and it's his Op.356.

We put it on the CD at the last minute, because people here were going on and on about wanting it.

accompanying a sneering villain, . . .

I'll bet I'm not the only one to have formed a mental image of the "sneering villain" before my eyes had moved beyond the comma. R.W. pretty much had a lock on those roles for many years.

Got the CD today! Took the post office 7-8 days!

Just played O. Henry. Just beautiful, the main title alone is worth the price. Amazing sound quality too. Like Preston, in the 1960s I tapped parts of the film off TV with my trusty Sony reel-to-reel recorder. Never thought 50 years later I would have this wonderful music! smile

Will play Luck of the Irish next. Maybe I should wait 4 days?

Very interesting booklet notes Preston!

Bruce, please continue to ship the CDs in the cardboard boxes. The box was very dirty with ink etc. on it, and very banged up. But, the CD and jewel case inside were fine.

Thank You Bruce! smile

You're welcome Cody. I think we have identical interest in Films and Film Scores. Besides, any guy that called himself Cody Jarrett can't be all bad! smile

The Alfred Newman score is knockout gorgeous, what a composer he was. Have not listened to the Mockridge score yet, I want to fully digest the Newman!
