Was the soundtrack to The Last Of The Mohicans just Trevor Jones? No, I have a feeling they'll both get represented.

Well, it kind of depends on how much money the company putting out the score album will want to spend, I guess. Tyler's score was recorded in London... we don't know where Elfman recorded his music, but if it was in LA, it would mean that including his cues would be costly, even for a movie that is expected to rake in as much money as this one is.

Also, who is producing the album? If Tyler produces the score release himself, he may well only want his score on the CD (and who could blame him?). Elfman did not include Christopher Young's cues on the SPIDER-MAN 2 soundtrack he produced (in fact, he seemed to make it a point to include many omitted cues that Young's material replaced and which were retracked using score from part 1). Similarly, the album for 2010's THE WOLFMAN didn't include the additional material by Conrad Pope and others. The album Randy Newman produced for SEABISCUIT did not include the William Ross redos... etc, etc.

Don't get me wrong: I hope all the significant score from the movie makes it onto the CD, regardless of who wrote it. But that said, I wouldn't bet on Elfman's material being there myself. I hope I'm wrong!

Or this is going to virtually guarantee that no score disc is released.

There's still time to write music and have it recorded overseas (something Marvel is very fond of — they don't seem to like the AFM deal.) Apparently Elfman has been attached to ULTRON since early February, and the movie is due out May 9. Plenty of time to dash this sucker out and get an album in stores.

That is my main worry. PLEASE OH PLEASE don't be the case!

This is one of the biggest movies of the year. And this is Brian Tyler. Of course the score will be released.

But will it be on CD? That's the question. Rights issies have prevented CDs or even entire scores of any format to be released before. It probably won't be a problem, but it's something us nerds can worry about.

If it hasn't prevented any of the previous MCU movie scores, why would it be a problem here?

Yes, but the difference here (well, one of the differences here) is that none of them were mentioned on the posters or even on the opening credits of the movies. Also, it seems to be a case of scheduling problems (with Tyler not being able to do the work himself) rather than a Spider-Man 2 scenario.

There are definite big changes musically if Elfman is getting his own additional music by credit.

There should be no rights issues. If Disney/Marvel has commissioned Elfman to compose additional music (and it seems certain that they have), it would be on the terms they negotiate. No way would Elfman retain any sorts of rights that would prevent ancillary use on soundtracks, video games, etc.

For what it's worth, every Marvel produced movie that has been released has had a lengthy score release on cd. Granted, Incredible Hulk and Punisher: War Zone are CD-R, but that was before Disney acquired Marvel. I would be shocked if the film Marvel arguably has the highest expectations for does not have a score release.

No, I think that Elfman getting poster credit mainly means that he has a very shrewd agent.

And as I said before, i don't buy the "scheduling conflicts" argument for a second. Not only is it fairly common Hollywood speak for "fired," but I see no reason why Tyler and his team couldn't acomodate some editing changes, etc, if that's all this was. Clearly, Marvel / Whedon wants to try a different approach with some aspect of the score, and that's why they hired a heavy hitter like Elfman instead of a less accomplished alternative.

And I think there will absolutely be a CD... But I stand by my hunch that there won't be any Elfman on it.

What if Elfman only composed an after credits scene featuring Spider-Man? Would that warrant a poster credit? Shrewd agent factor included.

I can't imagine it would warrant credit. And for such a brief thing, I can't imagine they'd ask him to do it. Or that he would do it. And that Spider-Man theme is from three movies ago, and it's not exactly like Marvel pays a lot of attention to recurring themes for characters anyway.

So my answer, with no inside info, would be "no."

Yes, I can imagine Marvel having one of the most prominent film music composers on the damn planet be prominently billed on the credits and then not having anything on the soundtrack album, in much the same way I can imagine Seth Macfarlane being asked to host the Oscars next year. Of course, if you turn out to be right I'll admit being wrong, but if you turn out to be wrong I reserve the right to quote this message in a post with a picture of me holding up the CD and going "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!"

Whatever this is, it's going to be less than what we imagine. I'm with johnmullin : they wouldn't go with Elfman for a "simple" rewrite. It's going to be something about a theme (prexisting or not) and Elfman gets a poster a credit because he's Danny Elfman and he (and/or his agent) has the leverage to get it.

It seems more likely that Elfman did contribute several tracks due to a re-edit of the film and Tyler really was not available at that time or was not wanted to deliver that.

Anyway - it will be interesting to find out how the score shapes up and how Elfman´s style will mix with Tyler´s.

So why didn't he get a credit when he delivered one track for Scream 2 or Kick-Ass? I'm sorry, but unless he has best damn agent in Hollywood, I don't think Elfman gets a credit for just delivering a theme (prexisting or not). To get credited on the poster as an additional composer he really needs to done have something substantial on the film

It helps that he's a bigger name than, say, John Debney (Looney Tunes: Back In Action) or Joel McNeely (Air Force One).
