You mean this?

Yes. I only mention it forensically, in that the performance tells us that scoresheets are available somewhere for Alec the Great. It's a wobbly performance as a CD overall.

Rather than recycling already recorded soundtracks, I wish they would next devote their attentions to some film scores that have NEVER been recorded, such as Michael Small's "Love and pain and the whole damn thing" and Michel Legrand's for "Sheila Levine Is Dead And Living In New York," and others that have, alas, fallen between the cracks.

Let's be realistic. Sales of those would nowhere near cover the cost of hiring an orchestra. They'd be a sure fire route to bankruptcy though smile

I differ on the Morricone 'Kyrie Eleison set to Clint Eastwood rhythm' though. I'm reluctant to say why in case I spark something off...

Well, tell us anyway. It's nearly time for another controversy.

Doug: Re: "Let's be realistic. Sales of those would nowhere near cover the cost of hiring an orchestra. They'd be a sure fire route to bankruptcy though"

Actually I didn't make clear what I really meant. I know how gorgeous Small's music is in "Love and pain and the whole damn thing" and think that others would find it quite magical themselves. And obviously it would probably be very hard to find even 1,000 music lovers willing to shell out $20 for the entire soundtrack for a film they know nothing about. But I'd love for Tadlow to record a special compilation with maybe a couple of cues from several of the holy grails that many of us have posted here that have NEVER been available on CD. They could publicize it by noting that these are examples of beloved soundtracks that have NEVER been available before. Yes, in terms of marketing, it would be a greater challenge than, say, the recent "QB-VII" and "Exodus," but I'm sure many of us here wouldn't hesitate to jump on the bandwagon to trumpet the magic of the neglected cues chosen for such a recording.

Has anyone suggested Goldsmith's SECONDS? Provided that the organ and echoing effects could be duplicated faithfully (and not just imitated acoustically), it is a classic that deserves a finer preservation than what's possible with the film stems.

Having commented on the Game Of Thrones score in another thread got me pondering how wonderful it would be to see several classic console game scores orchestrated & performed by a full grand ensemble.

Warlok ..... Tadlow spend a certain amount of their working days recording modern and new session music for current film, that's almost their main day-job. And with that, they sometimes record game scores. Classic film-scoring is James' PASSION, but it doesn't pay the bills, unless maybe lowering the profit margin for tax? I'm guessing there.

Thats sounds valid/reasonable. Many moons ago someone older than I said that if you can`t do what you want for a living, maybe you can find something for a living that will *enable* you to do what you want.

Regarding my own choices/wishes, were anyone interested, I could send along mp3s and MIDIs that would testify to their worthiness. Just offering.

Oh... just to be a completist, I would add the computer game score to Star Wars: Dark Forces.

Hey - this thread`s still kicking. WooHoo.

James has already stated on these pages that 2 scores have been recorded presumably awaiting release. Neither one was by Goldsmith.

I would love to see them re-record Billy Goldenberg's score from Duel!

BTW, I found this re-recorded suite for Duel on YouTube. It's really good, but I have no idea where it even came from. Does anybody know if the entire score was ever re-recorded? Or where this re-recorded suite even came from?

Darth, I think that's from Silva Screen's "Music from the Films of Steven Spielberg" (Nic Raine, Paul Bateman etc with the City of Prague Philharmonic mostly - but perhaps not in the case of DUEL...?). There's a longer suite around on YouTube somewhere, which I think is actually from the original soundtrack. Wasn't that "released" as a "promo" (or you-know-what-I-mean) a while back?

I'm sure any suggestion we'll make (that doesn't correspond directly to Tadlow's own preferences and priorities) is bound to be met with a "OK, if you send me $70.000, I'll record it just for you!"-type response, but I'll say again here what I've said in other threads about the same:

Please re-record John Williams' STORIA DI UNA DONNA!

It's a lost treasure, it's a great score, it's a Williams outing that is almost guaranteed to sell well, the score sheets are available. What more does one need in order to take the financial chance?

However, as alluded to above, it is my understanding that Tadlow and, in fact, most rerecording initiatives are currently on hold. Whether for economic reasons or something else in this new climate of album releases. But I still think there's a market for it. These are deluxe collector's item-type releases that still have the power to survive in a download market (just look at how the big pop acts market their physical releases these days -- it's usually with 'something extra' to warrant the physical priority).

You've got staying power, Thor, I give you that. Only you would continue to agitate month after month for the re-recording of a score with an Italian title. smile

Yep, you are right! I found the CD on Amazon and this is the only cue from Duel on the album. I also do know the other suite you are talking about as well. I actually have the unmentionable as well as a new-and-improved version 2 of that "promo". But both are just clever DVD rips as there are a lot of SFX as well as a lot of background hiss.

I just hope this score gets a release someday. And I'd love to hear Tadlow tackle it! It is a very short score at around 30-minutes, so perhaps it could be paired up with another score as a double-feature.
