Revisiting recent re-recordings for 'Guns of Navarone', 'The Alamo', Fall of the Roman Empire', 'El Cid'...I thought I'd resurrect this post while we MAY have James Fitzpatrick's attention. I don't think there is a better epic score more sorely in need of the Tadlow treatment than 'Pride'. If this score were done as only they can do it - it would be absolutely massive. PLEASE, someone, someday - soon. I would LOVE to record PRIDE AND THE PASSION...one of my favourite score ....but, Prometheus are not too keen to finance it....Tadlow Music has rather emptied their coffers with OBSESSION, BLUE MAX and IS PARIS BURNING? Does anyone know of rich, soundtrack fan with about $60,000 to spare and no real chance of getting the investment back ...apart from having the gratitude of lots of film music fans!!! Sad as it may be, the fact that ANYONE on this board thinks this would sell more than the ten copies to the ten people who are clamoring for it is, well, amusing. We're still sitting on copies of the actual soundtrack. And yes, I love the score, too, but really.

I think a suite of the main themes would do (for the beginning at least). It's sad that the mono album is all that survives. Sounds to me very much like a stereo recording mixed down to mono - not an actual mono mix...

And I'd probably be the only one to buy a recording of THE JUGGLER. (But then I'd at least buy a few more copies to give to friends. And anybody else who I think might like great music from a movie they've never seen.)

Track 1 Track 7 and track 10 are simply perfect. Its a shock there are copies left.

Back in the 80s LP days in the Uk, this was a super rare LP and much sought after due to its standing. When one came on the market it swapped hands for big bucks such was the rush to own one.

Speaking as someone who managed a classical music shop for two years, it's the classical crossover interest that would prop up sales of a new Antheil recording. Other Tadlow releases have gotten reviewed in Fanfare and maybe American Record Guide -- if a complete recording of Pride and the Passion were to get similar review treatment I think it'd have appeal beyond just Golden Age film music fans (a sadly dwindling community). I think Jerome Moross (The War Lord) would be in the same boat as regards crossover appeal to the classical market. You know when Naxos freshly records a Shostakovich film score they aren't just selling to film music fans. Yavar

Bruce, as one Antheil fan to another, I'm just curious, are you familiar with the JUGGLER score, (or the film itself, for that matter)?

I've got an unchecked lottery ticket in my wallet. We'll see.

When the Charles Gerhardt series was issued in the 70s it was on RCA Red Seal, their classical line. It was heavily promoted by RCA, I saw the LPs in stores in both the soundtrack sections AND the classical sections. Some stores had huge posters on the walls! The Gerhardt series was reviewed in classical magazines etc. I'm sure there was a big cross-over for the series. In the 90s and early 2,000s the Morgan/Stromberg series on Marco Polo had much the same promotion but perhaps not quite as much. It's now 2016, I get the feeling this classical cross-over of a film score is less now. I hope I'm wrong. Yes, there is certainly less cross promotion than there should be. I'm just talking about my own experience of marketing film score titles to classical fans in-store -- I would absolutely have more luck selling them an Antheil or Moross score than I would selling them a Newman or Friedhofer score (sadly, since I love both of those composers, but they didn't do concert work and thus had no snob appeal). It's too bad Intrada didn't put out their release of Leonard Bernstein's On the Waterfront while I was working in the shop...I could have sold the crap out of that! That said, the market for classical music itself has drastically shrunk in the last 20 or 30 years. It now accounts for less than 1% of overall music sales, whereas in the 80s it was a sizeable chunk...we're talking fractions with little numbers on the bottom. Yavar

Olive Films will be releasing THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION on Blu-ray on August 16th (with a singularly ugly cover). Do Olive Films Blu-rays have isolated music tracks, anyone ?? (Bob, I agree about the cover art!)
