Well, you know what I'd want for the 50th annivresary? ALL of the scores up to 1987, complete as double discs, disc 1 being the in-order film versions of the scores and disc 2 being the original album assembly. Why? 'Cos some of the album versions were really good album plays even if they were truncated. That way you could have your film version of FRWL and album version. That way you could have your film version of Diamonds, with the extra bars at the front, and the album version. That way you could make Thunderball and OHMSS finally complete, albeit either spilling the film content over to disc 2, or omitting some source cues and instrumentals from disc 1 that are duplicated on disc 2. Now that's what I would hope for. But that would be hopelessly over-the-top, wouldn't it! Hey, allow a guy to dream, will ya? Cheers

Cheers And we would finally have the film-tracks of TSWLM, which i have been waiting for 30 years.

On the positive front, things do turn up in inventories. Richard Moore found the original session tape of Matt Monro’s FRWL vocal recently and implied that most of JB’s score was also discovered. Chris This is total confusion: Matt Monro's FRWL recording was never related to any John Barry's sessions. I checked Richard Moore's posts and basically he said, that the FRWL multi-channel tape (which had been unavailable when he compiled a Matt Monro anthology) has re-appeared ALONG with John Barry tapes in the same batch. I have no idea, though, if that would include the entire score, or just the unmixed album master. I would assume, though, that any unmixed source would have the entire session - and not just what was releaed on LP...

Well, the fate of TMWTGG is known: it has been used for the DVD re-mix. So, where are they and who has them? At least we know that MGM has them somewhere on HD/DAT. The fate of the pre-Thunderball scores and TSWLM, MR, OP and AVTAK remains a mystery by comparison. Who knows whether the DVD producers considered it unnecessary to re-mix the soundtracks from TSWLM onwards because there were already multi channel mixes available - or because the tapes were missing... Cool! So the lost MR tapes is an urban myth and we may yet get a remastered release one day. I'm afraid I wanted to express the opposite with my posting. Nobody (except for The Cat perhaps ) seems to know where the tapes for "Moonraker" are. I merely tried to imply that TMWTGG seems to be available...

More than three years on and a release of an expanded Moonraker album remains a dream. We know from Jon Burlingham's book on Bond music that the tapes were returned to London for the dubbing sessions. Were they returned to Paris?. There was talk of a rerecording last year but no news on that for a while now. Let's hope that the tapes are found in 2014 and the rights holders show some enthusiasm for a release.

It would be a first step if they did those that are available - like TMWTGG or the bonus cues from OHMSS and TB...

Who needs the original tapes? After Tadlow´s superb QB VII-re-recording, partly done by transcribing notes from listening to the DVD (!!!), I am sure they could do anything.

Another interesting (yet sad) aspect about the whereabouts of the 007 tapes: the liner notes to Quartet's "A Passage To India" say that plenty tape stock was destroyed when CTS was sold in 2000. Could it be that things like "Dr. No", FRWL, GF (maybe even MR) were stored there?

John Barry often used some synthesizers, so it's not easy to transcribing some part. Also NOTHING can compare with original session with ORIGINAL orchestra & conductor. That's why even if I respect Tadlow & Mr. Raine, I don't have ANY new re-recordings in my collection - they always miss something (notes, intonations, spirit of the score). I can only say: QB VII. It does compare. And the sound quality is of course better than the original.
