There are going to be three releases: the song CD, the score CD, and a deluxe edition with both discs and the colorful artwork. I can't find the deluxe version at Amazon.

From amazon it looks like there are two releases:

The Awesome Mix song CD and the 2-disc version with both. Amazon's catalog just has the old placeholder cover up for the 2-disc set instead of the colorful version.

The article posted above mentions a "digital score release," so it looks like the only way to get the score on CD would be the deluxe 2-disc edition.

I already own almost every song on that mix, between rock albums and other soundtrack compilations. Still, the 2-disc set is cheaper than a 1-disc from the boutiques (such as Intrada's Avengers, Thor 2, Captain America 2) so I'm happy enough to pay $15 or less for both.

According to Kaya Savas' review (http://www.filmmusicmedia.com/reviews/guardiansofthegalaxybytylerbatesreview), the score's weak until it starts to cohere in track 13, and then the second half is pretty good. But Kaya Savas seems to have pretty eclectic taste so who knows. Very curious to hear some samples.

Haha, I didn't have to click the link to guess it was a 4-star review, despite half the album being weak.

I had never really cared much for anything Tyler Bates had done before, but truly really enjoy his God Of War "Acension" score. Maybe this super hero effort will be interesting.

I really liked it, and I've never really been a fan of Bates. My review here.

They've been looping action music since the premiere of the movie hasn't started yet and it actually sounds pretty good to me. Very Brian Tyler influenced.

Man talk about generic action music. Take all the newer Brian Tyler scores and remove heroic themes and you have this cue. Then combine in all the cheesy pop songs they are going to stink up the film with and I don't know how anyone can stand it. And of course one more ridiculously low bitrate sample that has artifacts all over it.

I guess I should be glad though. Rather than everyone trying to sound like The Dark Knight they are trying to sound like Iron Man 3 and Thor 2. Oh wait, that still leaves us in a world where orchestration doesn't matter.

I don't know if anyone has posted this, but the score is showing on iTunes now and the tracks can be previewed.

Not Tyler Bates but Brian Tyler: his Marvel Fanfare Suite plays for the first 5:32 of this video:

A bit repetitive but if you wanted a longer version of the Fanfare, there it is.

Then there's a bunch of Tyler Bates score, then a trailer for the film, and an interview with Tyler Bates starting at 17:04.

I'll admit I was one of those Bates detracters but after hearing the itunes samples I am now on board. Sounds great.

I am very often thrown by samples, not liking them and getting prejudiced against the whole score.

But these samples are really good. And even they have big THEMES!

I've enjoyed the Samples. Instrumental and harmony wise, it is typical but there is an effort in the orchestration which i like. I look forward to the film and the score! I really want this film to do good and the score definitely needs to be part of the package.

I'm floored by how good the samples are. It could be a Bond score in parts. I didn't know Bates had it in him. Does anyone know if the Marvel theme by Brian Tyler at the start of the above video has been officially released anywhere?

The short fanfare version is in his score to Thor: The Dark World. The long version is not commercially available but is more or less the short version on a loop. wink If you really want it I'm sure you can pull the audio from the youtube vid.

Totally agree. Sounded even worse than I imagined. Like a synth temp track. Horribly edited together also. Lots of odd "splices" like its not the whole cue or something. Over a decade of Marvel film scores wasted away.

Where the hell are the woodwinds? Their absence makes this score sound like the orchestra is missing something huge. Also, though I won't try to claim that Tyler Bates didn't write any themes, I don't find his themes here to be very interesting. Not only that but the parts backing up the themes are especially boring and simplistic.
